The Deep Dive: NBA DFS Picks for DraftKings and FanDuel | Today 6/5/21

The second round of the NBA playoffs is finally underway. It kicks off one of the most anticipated matchups of the playoffs as the Nets take on the Bucks. This creates fun contests tonight, and plenty of NBA DFS picks to go through on FanDuel and DraftKings. Figuring out the usage for both of these teams is no easy task.

NBA DFS Deep Dive: DraftKings + FanDuel | June 5

Giannis Antetokounmpo ($11,800 DraftKings/$15,000 FanDuel) — Of the pay-up options in this game, Antentokounmpo is the safest. He doesn’t have to compete for usage in the same way that the Nets’ stars have to. Mike Budenholzer is also showing a willingness to play his core players more in the playoffs this season than he did last year. This doesn’t totally show in the box score against the Heat since most of the games were blowouts, but in the one close game, Antetokoumpo ended up logging 45.5 minutes. That was an overtime game, although this is a good indication that Antetokounmpo will play around 40 minutes per game in this series against Brooklyn.

James Harden ($12,000 DraftKings/$15,500 FanDuel) — Compared to Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant, Harden is a better fantasy play because he isn’t as reliant on usage. While he can score the basketball as well as his star teammates, Harden also averages more rebounds and assists than them. The Net shot attempts and usage are difficult to predict, and Harden is the one Nets star who could conceivably have a big fantasy game without taking a ton of shots. This also gives him a higher floor than his teammates.

Pat Connaughton ($3,600 DraftKings/$7,000 FanDuel) — It is hard to find value on this slate. There are so many stars to pay up for who will soak up most of the playing time and usage. Any cheap player in line to get minutes becomes a high priority to make it possible to roster the stars in this contest. This is where Connaughton comes into play. With Donte DiVincenzo out for the rest of the postseason, Connaughton stands to gain the most. He started in the Bucks’ last game and, during the regular season, Connaughton averaged 26 minutes and 21.55 DraftKings points as a starter.

Nicolas Claxton ($2,800 DraftKings/$8,000 FanDuel) — Claxton is the best center on the Nets and should probably start during this series. His size and athleticism are much more important to the Nets’ defense than what Blake Griffin brings to the table. With that said, Griffin will likely start anyway. Brooklyn hasn’t made playing Claxton a high priority as of late. Even so, he’s cheap in a game where value is needed, and he could outperform Griffin and earn himself extra minutes in this game and throughout the series going forward.
