2023 BMW Championship PGA DFS Core Plays: Keep Backing Cantlay

The BMW Championship is the penultimate event on the 2023 PGA Tour. Fifty golfers will do battle at Olympia Fields for the right to play in next week’s Tour Championship. The course is a par 70 that measures around 7,300 yards and features tight, tree-lined fairways with thick rough. The setup is similar in many ways to last week’s TPC Southwind in Memphis.

There is a premium for golfers who can find the fairway off the tee to earn scoring chances, and this week’s PGA DFS core plays on DraftKings feature elite ball strikers who are consistent across their bag.

Patrick Cantlay, $10,500

Cantlay gained strokes on the field in every statistical category last week to finish as the runner-up in Memphis. He sets up nicely for another run at Olympia Fields. Cantlay is a long and straight driver of the golf ball, averaging 309 yards off the tee, which has helped him hit over 66% of fairways this year. He ranks second in this field in strokes gained off the tee and fourth in strokes gained tee to green over the last 50 rounds. Cantlay also ranks second in strokes gained putting on bentgrass greens over the last 100 tracked rounds. He is checking all the boxes for this week and is a great play in all PGA DFS formats.

Tyrrell Hatton, $9,000

Hatton is always a golfer to look to on difficult course setups like Olympia Fields. He is a well-rounded player with no glaring weaknesses in his game. Hatton is one of just two players in this field that ranks inside the top 15 in strokes gained on approach, off the tee and putting over the last 50 rounds. He has finished inside the top-two on tour four times. Those wins all came when the winning score of the tournament failed to exceed 11 under par. The last time Olympia Fields played host to the BMW Championship, the winning score was -4. It is a grinder-style layout, and that’s where Hatton excels, so he is the perfect PGA DFS core play this week on DraftKings.

Keegan Bradley, $7,100

It has been an up-and-down year for Bradley. He won the Travelers Championship in June but has followed that up with three lackluster performances. The recent finishes may not have been there for Bradley, but his irons have remained consistent throughout that stretch. He ranks fourth in this field in strokes gained on approach over the last 12 rounds. The shift back to bentgrass greens should also provide some comfort for Bradley, who has proven in his career that he vastly prefers this putting surface.

Bradley has averaged over 300 yards off the tee and has hit slightly over 60% of fairways this year. That and the potential for improved putting make him a good fit for this course. Bradley also offers nice salary relief at the bottom of the $7,000 range on DraftKings.
