2023 Scottish Open PGA DFS Core Plays: Don’t Overthink It, Scottie Scheffler is That Good

The PGA Tour heads to Europe for the Scottish Open this week, and we’re back with DraftKings PGA DFS core plays for this stacked field featuring many of the world’s best golfers. They’ll hit the links at The Renaissance Club, a par 70 that measures around 7,200 yards. Scoring at this event has been pretty good in past years, but it is always driven by the shifting coastal weather patterns. Keep an eye on the forecast as lock approaches to see if there are any weather edges. In the meantime, let’s take a look at Scottish Open DFS core plays this week.

2023 Scottish Open PGA DFS Core Plays: Scottie Scheffler

Scottie Scheffler, $11,600

Scottie Scheffler has had a consistent presence in core plays this year, and he has yet to disappoint. Scheffler’s current run is nothing short of remarkable. He’s on a streak of six consecutive top five finishes and sixteen straight top-12s. That level of consistency in the current golf landscape is truly exceptional. He ranks first in strokes gained on approach, off the tee and around the green among this field over the last 50 rounds. Scheffler has been best player in the world and is playing in a league of his own. There’s no need to overthink this; Scheffler is a core play for PGA DFS this week.

Tyrrell Hatton, $9,600

Tyrrell Hatton is another player who has played very consistently this season. He’s placed inside the top 20 in 6 of his last 7 events, three of which resulted in top five finishes. As an elite ball striker, Hatton’s game sets up well for The Renaissance Club which features tight fairways and some challenging approach shots into greens. The winning score at the Scottish Open has historically approached or exceeded the -20 mark, so Hatton’s 7th ranked Birdie or Better percentage among the field should keep him in the mix.

Corey Conners, $8,000

Corey Conners has enjoyed some nice success of late. He is one of the best ball strikers on tour. Conners ranks top 11 in both strokes gained off the tee and strokes gained on approach over the last 24 rounds. He has parlayed that into four top 20 finishes in his last six starts. The main concern with Conners is always the putter. He’s lost over seven strokes on putting alone in his last four events. However, The Renaissance Club features some of the slowest greens these golfers will play on all year which tends to play to the bad putters’ advantage. The price point on DraftKings for Conners is a bit too low for his range of outcomes in PGA DFS this week.

GPP Flier – Cameron Davis, $7,300

After looking lost for the majority of the 2023 campaign, there have been some signs of life in Cameron Davis’ game over the last few weeks. He finished 33rd at the Travelers Championship in late June, then followed it up with a 17th place finish at the Rocket Mortgage, while gaining over five strokes on approach over the field. Despite Davis’ struggles he still ranks inside the top 25 in Birdie or Better percentage in this field over the last 24 rounds. He’s a longer hitter that sets up well to attack this layout and continue to build momentum. Davis has a highly volatile game that is a high-upside, GPP-only play this week on DraftKings for the Scottish Open.
