Hilarious Underdog Fantasy Promo Has Joel Embiid Grounded

Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid is bound to be a popular DFS pick when the Sixers look to finish their series against the Boston Celtics in Game 6, but players can also benefit from a promo that has nothing to do with the MVP’s performance in the game. Underdog Fantasy is giving away some serious money any time Embiid falls to the floor. The big man has built up a reputation as one of the more clumsy players in the league, paving the way for this hilarious opportunity. Underdog Fantasy Promo: $1,000 Every Time Joel Embiid Hits the Deck

Underdog Fantasy tweeted out that they will be giving away $1,000 to a random follower any time Joel Embiid falls Thursday. All you have to do is quote tweet their post and include your Underdog username.

Believe it or not, there is actually a reason why Embiid falls so damn much. Back in 2019, Embiid was recovering from a foot injury and trying to find a way to stay consistently available. He claims that doctors told him that it is actually beneficial for him to fall when he faces contact. That way, the impact spreads out to his entire body rather than just affecting him in one specific area.

Per ESPN’s Chris Herring:

At the team’s practice facility in Camden, New Jersey, just seconds before he vanishes from sight to take a post-workout shower, Embiid smiles when asked about his frequent falls. “It was something I learned during my rehab when I was going through the foot injury, when I was trying to find ways to limit the impact on my body in 2014,” he says. “I was told that every time I feel like I’m in a situation where it’s going to be some type of extreme [weight] on my leg, I’ve got to dive or just roll onto the floor. So that’s why I do it.”

“I know there are fans that are always thinking, ‘No!’ each time I fall, but that’s why I do it,” Embiid says with a brief grin before heading for the showers. “The specialists for my foot told me to do it.”

The tactic seems to have worked, as Embiid has managed his injuries a lot better than he did during his college career and early NBA career. Embiid has now appeared in at least 65 games in back-to-back years and won his first MVP Award after setting a career-high in minutes played.

He missed Game 1 of the Celtics series with a knee injury but has gutted through and played all four games since. Embiid is officially listed as questionable for Game 6 but it would take a huge setback to keep him out of the contest.

For the Sixers, Embiid can fall as much as he wants if it somehow helps him avoid serious injury. And Underdog Fantasy players will certainly be hoping the MVP goes down a whole bunch on Thursday night.
