OwnersBox NFL DFS Picks: Hurts, Burrow Top the MNF Slate, But Injuries Loom Large (September 25)

NFL DFS players get another two-game Monday Night slate. The Philadelphia Eagles take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and the Los Angeles Rams will do battle with the Cincinnati Bengals. The big question on Monday is the status of Joe Burrow, who could be out of the lineup due to a lingering injury. Assuming Burrow plays, there are still plenty of key decisions. Let’s take a look at the Monday Night Football OwnersBox NFL DFS slate using Stokastic’s custom OwnersBox DFS projections to find the best plays.

Top Projected NFL DFS Plays

Jalen Hurts – $7,500

Philadelphia’s implied total of 26.5 points dwarfs the other three teams on Monday Night’s NFL DFS slate. That could mean big things for Jalen Hurts and the Eagles offense. Hurts can do damage in all facets of the game, making him a tough fade in DFS. He has only thrown for two touchdowns in the Eagles first two games, but he’s contributed two on the ground as well. There aren’t many scenarios where the Eagles reach 26 points that don’t go through Hurts.

Hurts projects for 21.65 fantasy points on OwnersBox DFS this Monday. At $7,500, Hurts is the highest-priced player on the slate, but that isn’t stopping him from also being the best point-per-dollar option. He stands well above the next-highest-projected player. Stokastic’s OwnersBox NFL DFS ownership projections have yet to come out. Given that you can roster two quarterbacks on the site, it’s reasonable to think Hurts will be in upwards of 80% of lineups.

Joe Burrow – $6,800

Assuming that Burrow plays, he will be the next-best option at quarterback. The Bengals are reeling after two blowout losses to start the 2023 season. However, they got off to a slow start in 2022 as well. That only motivated them to start airing the ball out, which could be the case again on Monday night. Like with Hurts, the Bengals offense funnels to just handful of players, making it easy to know who to stack with Burrow. That and his second overall projection will make him a top commodity on this slate.

Burrow projects for 17.52 fantasy points. That’s well below Hurts, but it is still likely to make Burrow the second-highest-owned option when ownership is released. One problem for Burrow backers is his price. The $6,800 rates below several other players from a points-per-dollar perspective. And with the potential for further injury and the Bengals’ offensive woes in the first week, that might filter some ownership to the other quarterbacks on this slate.

Puka Nacua – $6,000

Who needs Cooper Kupp? Puka Nacua has burst on the scene in the first two weeks of the season. It’s incredible to see that he is already projected better from a fantasy point perspective than wide receivers like Ja’Marr Chase and Mike Evans. The hype is real given Nacua’s 25 receptions across the first two weeks. Those numbers could be even higher if he hauled in a few more of his 35 targets.

Nacua is projecting for 17.08 fantasy points, making him the third-highest-projected play on the slate. His price tag continues to increase, but at $6,000 it still hasn’t nearly caught up to his average projections. He’s the second-ranked point-per-dollar option, and the ownership will surely follow.

Top NFL DFS Value Plays

Van Jefferson – $4,000

OwnersBox NFL DFS players are going to be selling out for Hurts and other highly projected guys. That makes finding the best spend-down options even more important. Van Jefferson is the highest-projected play at $4,000 or below. He has been out-targeted by Nacua and Tutu Atwell in the first two weeks, but he is still getting plenty of playing time with Kupp out. Jefferson has always been a boom-or-bust player and capable home run threat. He’ll never have a great average, but Jefferson’s high standard deviation can make him a slate breaker on a two-gamer. Jefferson projects for 7.71 fantasy points. He’ll be a popular attachment to Matthew Stafford in Rams stacks but is likely to be a more contrarian option as a one-off.

Cade Otton – $3,600

The Buccaneers offense still has a lot to prove in the absence of Tom Brady, but Baker Mayfield has looked competent in his first two weeks in Tampa. Mayfield has keyed in on receivers Mike Evans and Chris Godwin, but there has still been plenty to go around for Cade Otton. Otton caught 42 passes as a rookie and is well on pace to do so again in 2023. He has eight catches on nine targets in the first two weeks, leading the team after the departure of Rob Gronkowski. He projects for 1.98 fantasy points, which makes Otton the top point-per-dollar player under $4,000 on Monday’s OwnersBox NFL DFS slate.
