OwnersBox NFL DFS Strategy: Top Quarterback Plays for Week 5’s Main Slate

The SuperFlex format on OwnersBox NFL DFS makes it extremely important to get quarterbacks and their stacking partners correct since you’re likely to be rostering two players from the position. SuperFlex DFS also causes the best DFS plays at quarterback to be higher owned, but when the value is there it can be hard to fade. Given the importance of finding standout QBs, let’s take a look at the best quarterbacks for NFL Week 5 using Stokastic’s custom OwnersBox NFL DFS projections.

OwnersBox NFL DFS Strategy: Top Quarterbacks

OwnersBox DFS Quarterback Plays

Jalen Hurts, $7,500

The Philadelphia Eagles have a tough road showdown with the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday. The game could be one of the Eagles’ closest this season, which is great news for Jalen Hurts. The star quarterback hasn’t had to do much to get the Eagles out to a 4-0 record, but he has still put up strong fantasy performances. If the game is close and Hurts is pushed to turn on the jets, we could see massive fantasy output. He gets it done with the legs as much as with the feet, so when the Eagles go over their team total– they’re pegged for ~27 in Week 5– tons of the production should go through Hurts.

Jalen Hurts projects for 24.23 fantasy points. That not only makes him the top point-per-dollar value at the position, but also the best value on the entire OwnersBox NFL DFS slate. The field is getting there plenty, with Hurts projected for 28% ownership, but his ceiling and floor make it well worth grabbing some shares.

Tua Tagovailoa, $7,100

The Miami Dolphins show sputtered a bit last week when they were brought back to earth by the Buffalo Bills. They return home in Week 5 to host the struggling New York Giants in what could be a huge bounce back spot for Tua and company. Tua Tagovailoa has emerged as one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL over the last couple seasons. Nobody is better at getting the ball in the hands of his playmakers, and Tua has plenty of them. He’s priced well on OwnersBox and brings in excellent value on this slate.

Tagovailoa is projected for 21.79 fantasy points. That makes him the second best QB value and third overall point-per-dollar play for Week 5. His ownership is up there, but it’s significantly less than Hurts. Tua is expected to be rostered by 21% of the field, which is a pretty reasonable number given these dynamics.

Patrick Mahomes, $7,800

The Kansas City Chiefs narrowly escaped defeat in Week 4 when they took on the New York Jets. Patrick Mahomes struggled against the Jets’ defense, but he gets a much weaker defensive opponent on Sunday. The Chiefs are on the road again, taking on the Minnesota Vikings. The Vikings have been one of the most porous defenses in the NFL, and their offense plays at a high pace that increases the number of plays for their opponent. That’s good news for Mahomes, who is capable of putting up big numbers against anyway, let alone a low ranked defense.

The two-time NFL MVP projects for 23.44 fantasy points on this OwnersBox NFL DFS slate. That is higher than Tua’s raw projection, and just below Miami’s signal caller from a point-per-dollar perspective. He’s priced higher than Tua, but DFS players will get a bit of an ownership discount, as well. Mahomes checks in at 19.7% ownership heading into Sunday.

Daniel Jones, $6,200

The New York Giants have a tough road matchup with the Miami Dolphins, but most of the pressure will come in trying to stop the Dolphins’ offensive attack. The Fins’ are nothing to write home about on defense, which means Daniel Jones could be in line for a bit of recovery. The Giants’ quarterback has been pestered by pressure in the pocket all season, getting sacked repeatedly when he can’t escape. However, he is also a good rusher who does make things happen on his feet. He’ll have that option against a weak Miami defense and he may see improved offensive line play too. Jones is scary to roster, but the value and opportunity is there in Week 5.

Jones projects for 18.39 fantasy points, slotting him in as the fourth best point-per-dollar play at the QB position on OwnersBox. He’s picking up 17.8% ownership which is significant, but still worth consideration in the SuperFlex DFS format. Jones’ is a little higher than the signal callers we’ll get to next, but he’s picking up a bit less ownership.

Matthew Stafford, $6,100

The Philadelphia Eagles might have the top quarterback on this slate in Jalen Hurts, but the other side of the game features another great value in Matthew Stafford. This game may even present a full game-stack opportunity. Stafford and the Rams had a tough 2022 season but they’ve turned things around in the early going this year. The key for Stafford has been getting the ball out quickly to Puka Nacua and other wideouts like Tutu Atwell and Van Jefferson. Nakua, especially, has been the biggest hit for the team. He has filled in for the injured Cooper Kupp without missing a beat. Nacua gives Stafford an easy outlet, and the emergence of Kyren Williams in the run game has made this a formidable all around attack. Stafford and the Rams don’t have the explosiveness of some teams, including the Eagles, but they are strong plays for their prices.

Stafford projects for 17.92 fantasy points and 18.72% ownership. He has several stacking pieces to go with him, including Nacua, Atwell and Jefferson. He can also be paired with Tyler Higbee or Kyren Williams. The spot offers a great way to get correlation with Hurts at a lower salary than some of the Eagles pass catchers.

Joshua Dobbs, $5,900

It’s surprising to see an Arizona Cardinals player at the top of any list this season, but here we are. The Cardinals haven’t proven much in 2023, but they have at least shown that they are a lot better than expected by most NFL DFS players and fans heading into the campaign. Joshua Dobbs was signed just days before the season to fill in at QB in Arizona. He has been solid, keeping them competitive most weeks. Dobbs has done a solid job getting the ball to receivers like Marquis Brown and Marco Wilson, and he has chipped in some additional output on the ground, rushing for 141 yards and a touchdown in the Cardinals’ first four games.

The projection on Dobbs makes him a great point-per-dollar value and an excellent salary saver on OwnersBox NFL DFS. He has a 17.25 fantasy point projection and 18.4% ownership. Dobbs’ $5,900 salary allows you to get to bigger spend ups elsewhere in lineups.
