The Hornets are coming off a convincing win over the Hawks despite only shooting 37.6% from the field. With Atlanta shooting just as poorly, the big difference in the game was fouls. The Hornets committed only 14 fouls to the Hawks’ 25. This led to Charlotte attempting 33 free throws to Atlanta’s 18. Gordon Hayward led the way for the Hornets, scoring 44 points and converting on 10 of 12 free throws. Rookie LaMelo Ball continued to give valuable minutes off the bench, putting up a line of 13 points, eight rebounds and five assists in 24 minutes. It has been rumored that Ball could be getting more playing time alongside both Terry Rozier and Devonte’ Graham in small lineups. The latter has really struggled this season, averaging only 10.4 points on 26% shooting.
After a strong start to the season, New Orleans has dropped back-to-back games. On Wednesday, the Pelicans lost a close game against the Thunder, which came down the the final possession. It was a balanced offensive approach for New Orleans, with six players scoring in double figures. Brandon Ingram and Zion Williamson continued to lead the way for this team, scoring 24 and 29, respectively. The team was overall efficient, converting on over 49% of shots. The issue was their lack of outside shooting. They only had four 3-point shots in the game, compared to 19 made for the Thunder. With only 27% of their points coming from 3-point shots this season, the Pelicans rank last in the NBA.
