Valspar Championship PGA Predictions & Betting Picks

In this weekly article, Awesemo’s golf experts will give their expert PGA picks this week, as well as going over the best odds and their favorite golf betting predictions for the Valspar Championship.

Ben Rasa’s Pick: Matthew Fitzpatrick

Outright 28-1 (BetMGM)

I have been waiting for a spot to target Matthew Fitzpatrick in the outright market, but the odds just weren’t there the past few weeks. Fitzpatrick still is looking for his first win on tour, and at or below 20-1 was just not a price I was willing to pay. After the missed cut last week at the Players, he now has a 28-1 number on the board, which is much more appealing and reasonable. Fitzpatrick had the bad weather draw last week, and I have zero worries about a guy missing a cut at a place like Sawgrass. The challenging, technical layout should fit his game perfectly and this is the type of course where he could have his breakthrough win. this is the right price at 28-1, and Fitzpatrick was one of my first clicks in the outright market this week. He’s one of the best golf bets this week.

Jason Rouslin’s Pick: Tommy Fleetwood

Outright: 55-1 | Top 5: 9-1 | Top 10: 5-1 | Top 20: 2.5-1

While it’s been over two years since his last win, Tommy Fleetwood was once thought to be the next major champion from England. But it has been a tough last couple of years, as the top end form has seemingly disappeared and his world ranking has sunk with it. However, there have been signs of significant improvement for Fleetwood over the past two weeks, as he gained almost eight strokes tee to green last at the Players and gained almost six strokes putting the week before at the Arnold Palmer. Combine those two and that is a winning total strokes gained number, at least at most events. While it’s likely more difficult to put it all together than I just made it out to be, it would seem things are trending in the right direction for Fleetwood, and he should find Copperhead to be a good fit for him.

Geoff Ulrich’s Pick: Russell Knox

Outright: 70-1 (BetMGM) | Top 5: 14-1 (DraftKings)

The Russell Knox grind over the last few months has been impressive. He’s gained over a stroke on approach in eight of his last nine starts and has popped off two top-10s on the year already, all despite losing strokes with his putter in five of seven starts. Once upon a time, Knox was actually clutch on the greens, and while his progression in that area over the last year has been slow, he is gaining in the sense that he’s closer to average most weeks than he is the bottom of the field. It’s also noteworthy that both of Knox’s best results this year have come on “less-than-driver” venues at Waialae and Sawgrass, which feature plenty of doglegs, longer par 4’s and challenging par 3’s. That’s also Copperhead in a nutshell, a place where Knox has made six of seven cuts lifetime and finished inside the top 25 in six of the last seven seasons. He looks close to giving a serious challenge soon, and with a great setup on tap, his 70-1 odds are too big to pass up this week. Take the long odds to the counter and try to cash in on this PGA pick this week.

Eric Lindquist’s Pick: Gary Woodland

Outright: 50-1 (DraftKings) | Top 5: 16-1 (DraftKings)

Gary Woodland has fewer excuses for his poor performance at TPC Sawgrass than a lot of his peers, as he simply played terribly on the far better side of the draw. But heading into the Players, Woodland put up back-to-back fifth-place finishes at Honda and the Arnold Palmer, so on the whole the Florida swing has still treated him well. The Copperhead Course is another beast, but that’s where Woodland’s all-around game and propensity to gain strokes across the board can come into play. And considering he still found a way to gain strokes with the irons despite a brutal event last week, Woodland makes a strong bounce-back candidate for the Valspar.
