NBA Best Bets: Game Tips & Expert Betting Predictions

Pistons vs. Mavericks Best Bet

The Pistons travel to Dallas on Tuesday to face the Mavericks in hopes of snapping a four-game losing streak. The Pistons are coming off a 118-105 loss to Minnesota on Sunday. Dallas is coming off a 103-94 win over Atlanta. Tonight will be the first matchup between these two teams this season. The Pistons have the league’s worst road record, and today’s matchup will not get an easier, going up against a Mavericks squad that has won four of their last five games at home.

Detroit is desperate to win a game after losing eight of their last nine games and eight of their last 10 on the road. Cade Cunningham is questionable for tonight’s matchup and will most likely be a game-time decision. He has missed the past three games nursing a hip injury and will need to get some shots up in the morning shootaround to see how it is feeling. Josh Jackson (back) will sit out for a sixth straight game. The Pistons have struggled on both ends of the floor. Detroit ranks 29th in offensive rating on the year and is scoring 102.5 points per game on 42% shooting. Detroit has also struggled defensively, giving up 111.8 points per game. They gave up 118 points in their last game and will need to step it up if they want to have any chance to stay in this game.

The Mavericks will be down a few starters on Tuesday. Kristaps Porzingis (knee) and Maxi Kleber (knee) have been ruled out; Dorian Finney-Smith and Dwight Powell should continue to see increased minutes in their absence. Dallas rank 16th in offensive rating and is scoring 106.2 points per game. Luka Doncic is dominating opponents, putting up triple-doubles on a weekly basis. Doncic leads the team in points, rebounds and assists per game. Dallas has played well defensively, giving up 103.5 points per game — third fewest in the league. They have held their last two opponents to under 100 points and will look to do the same against a poor Pistons offense.

These two teams rank 25th and 29th in scoring. Dallas allows fewer points at home, while Detroit averages fewer points on the road. This game could be missing some offensive production on both ends of the court with Cunningham questionable and the Mavericks missing their staring frontcourt. Detroit has a 26-26-1 over/under record this season. The under is 15-6 in the Mavericks’ last 21. Dallas is the top Under team this year cashing the under in 65% of their games. Dallas loves to play in slower-paced games and will look to control the tempo and cruise to victory against a weaker Pistons squad. Take the under with confidence in tonight’s matchup.

Knicks vs. Nuggets Best Bet

New York trucks along their West Coast road trip with a stop in Denver on Tuesday night. The Knicks are coming off a disappointing loss to the Jazz last night. New York was up four points heading into the fourth quarter but could not finish the job, getting outscored 31-18 in the fourth and losing the game 113-104. Julius Randle led the team in scoring for the first time since Christmas Day, but it was not enough to come out victorious. The Nuggets picked up a 124-104 win over the Nets on Sunday to end a three-game losing streak. The Nuggets will look keep things going on Tuesday as they host the Knicks before traveling out east for a weekend road trip.

New York is watching their season slip away right before their eyes. The team has lost eight of their last 11 games, dropping to 24-30 on the season. They are in the second game of a back-to-back and will look to erase their memories of last night’s performance and turn things around against Denver. Kemba Walker will be back in action on Tuesday after resting on the first game of the back-to-back. Quentin Grimes is questionable, and he was a late scratch in yesterday’s game due to knee soreness. The Knicks rank 24th in offensive rating and are scoring 104.4 points per game this season. New York ranks 13th in defensive rating and are holding opponents to 105.7 points per game.

The Nuggets have been up and down on defense all season. Even with Nikola Jokic averaging 13.7 rebounds per game, the Nuggets rank 27th in total rebounds. The team has not been much help, forcing Jokic to do it all. Austin Rivers enters Tuesday’s game questionable after leaving the game on Sunday with a hip injury. Aaron Gordon posted 17 points, nine rebounds and seven assists in his first game back on Sunday after coming off a two-game absence due to a hamstring injury. He will look to be an added force alongside Jokic in the frontcourt. Denver ranks ninth in offensive rating and is scoring 109.3 points per game on 47.2% shooting. While the offense does not put up a ton of shot attempts, they rank third in effective field goal percentage on the year.

These two teams have matched up once this season, and the total ended at 212. The game total is averaging 210.2 points over their last four matchups. Even with Walker back in the lineup, do not expect him to break out of his recent shooting struggles on the road in Denver. Both teams rank in the bottom 10 in the league for field goal attempts per game. The Knicks are 24-29-1 over/under on the season and 5-2 over/under on no rest. Given the inconsistencies with the Knicks offense, paired with the fact that these are two of the slowest-paced teams in the league, there is a good chance for this game to be a low-scoring affair. Expect it to end in the 208 to 213 range.
