Here are the car owners of the past 10 winners at road races in the NASCAR Cup Series:

Before the 750-horsepower package was implemented at road races, it was tough enough for a driver without top-tier speed to compete for a victory. Since then the advantage has become even worse. Now, if a driver doesn’t have top-10 level speed, they simply aren’t going to be a factor without the weather or attrition playing a role. Consequently, look at what other “major” team has been missing from victory circle since Watkins Glen in 2018.

Furthermore, outside of a questionable caution in the Daytona Road Course race, that leaderboard should have seven straight road course victories for Hendricks Motorsports. With this being a new venue to the Cup Series, perhaps Hendricks’ advantage will be minimalized — Especially since no Hendrick driver is grabbing extra seat time in Saturday’s Xfinity or Trans-Am event. That said, the top two outright favorites (Kyle Larson +350, Chase Elliott +250) have been the best road course racers through three events and should be at the top of betting cards on Sunday. Both drivers have seen Road America before in the Xfinity Series, and Saturday’s practice session should be all they need to prepare for Sunday.

Find All The Top NASCAR Drivers Awesemo's NASCAR Top Drivers Tool is of the industry's best tool for finding the top drivers every week. This tool gives the probability that each driver will end up in a winning DFS lineup on DraftKings and FanDuel. The Top Driver Tool combines a driver's ownership, the Top 2 dominator percentage, the chance of being a Top-4 scorer, as well as their ceiling and floor. With all of that, it pinpoints the drivers most likely to bring you to the top of the leaderboard.

Whether for betting or DFS research purposes, it can’t be recommended enough to listen to this week’s episode of Positive Regression.

One of the highlights of this week’s episode was listening to Michael Self describe what sort of advantage a driver will need to succeed at Road America. Self’s emphasis for Road America was about aero due to the long straightaways at Elkhart Lake. Considering this is the 750-horsepower package, it will further emphasize the top-tier drivers in top-tier equipment. Thus, as mentioned above, potential winners should come from just three camps: Hendrick, Penske, and Joe Gibbs.

On the other hand, there is a situation with two notable “road ringers” making spot starts this Sunday. Both Austin Cindric (+425) and A.J. Allmendinger (+300) are crossing over from the Xfinity ranks to compete in Sunday’s Cup race. Cindric will be driving the No. 33 for Roger Penske, while Allmendinger will be behind the wheel of the 16 for Kaulig Racing. Kaulig is working as a partner of Richard Childress Racing, so this isn’t like the glory days of road ringers when Boris Said or Scott Pruett would take someone’s lower to mid-tier ride and have no real shot at competing for a win.

Besides talent and equipment, Cindric and Allmendinger have one advantage that a majority of Sunday’s field doesn’t: Neither of these two has to sweat the Cup playoff picture. They can pit off sequence and set themselves up late for a victory. Plus, both are racing on Saturday, so they should have practice plus track time that nearly half of the field will not. While projecting wins for either driver is tough, they both should be in positions to finish at or above fifth come the checkered flag.
