⛳ PGA DFS Picks: The Honda Classic Round 2 Showdown Picks for DraftKings & FanDuel l Will Gordon 3/18

This is a quick-hitter column to give you the key stats to make informed PGA DFS picks for your DraftKings and FanDuel daily fantasy golf lineups. In this space, we’ll look for a few recommendations in the second round of The Honda Classic. For typical Showdown GPPs, DraftKings will offer upwards of $50,000 to first place for second-and third-round tournaments, and sometimes even up to $100,000 for the final round. They also provide weekend-long contests that offer $25,000 to first place on average. FanDuel has even tried to get into the weekend-long and final-round contests, offering $10,000 and $5,000 to first place in their PGA DFS Showdown contests. Let’s take a look at PGA DFS picks for Round 2 of The Hond Classic.

Round 2 PGA DFS Picks: The Honda Classic

Previous Round Recap

Morning Wave:

Matt Jones was one of the first golfers out on the course this morning, and he made PGA National look like it was his home course that he plays on every day. Missing every shot where he needed to and getting hot with the putter, Jones put together one of the best rounds we’ve seen in some time. At least against the field average. A couple of other low ones from the morning wave as well, including Russell Henley & Arron Wise, who both shot 64. Others in the mix from this wave at four-under were Scott Harrington & Kevin Chappell. Good to see chaps back in the mix.

Afternoon Wave:

The PM wave wouldn’t even sniff Wise or Henley’s 64, let alone Jones’s 61, with 66 ending up as the low from the wave. Cameron Davis was the first to come in at that number, birding three of his last four holes. Ageless wonder Steve Stricker outplayed his other Champions tour competitors by quite a bit, firing another good first round. Joseph Bramlett, a late addition to the event, also shot 66 in the afternoon wave. One of the other rounds turned in by a “name,” at least to me, was Will Gordon, who was one of the first ones out from the PM Wave and played very well, only struggling around the green on the round. If he cleans that up tomorrow, he could set the pace for the PM wave.

Quick Hitter Round 1 Stat Recap

While Gordon wasn’t able to gain strokes around the green, he did gain in the other three categories. There were a few, though, that did gain in all four. They were

  • Matt Jones
  • Aaron Wise
  • Scott Harrington
  • Kevin Chappell
  • Cameron Tringale
  • Richy Werenski
  • Keith Mitchell

General Strategy and Honda Classic PGA DFS Picks

The winds are supposed to be a bit weaker for the second round, with no real advantage going to either wave. In terms of scores today, the morning wave averaged 70.97 while the afternoon averaged 72.07.

PGA DFS Picks for Round 2 of The Honda Classic

  • Sungjae Im ($10,600) Now that he and Niemann’s price are closer, I think we can lean to him, who seems to be in a touch of better form. Last week his irons were fantastic, but not in Round 1, it being the only place he struggled. I bet that won’t happen two days in a row.
  • Cameron Davis ($8,700) While the form had been a bit absent the last few weeks. It’s given him some extra rest heading into this week, where he’s found some good success in the past when he wasn’t as complete of a player he is now. He’s found his groove on tour this year, and I think that continues and could even lead to a win eventually. If Jones backs up a bit, and he posts a 67 or better in tomorrow’s round, he’ll be right in the mix heading into the weekend.
  • Rickie Fowler?($8,500) Honestly, I just like to watch my guys that I roster, and at least he was able to shot better than the average today. Maybe he’ll figure something out tomorrow and move up the board, and playing him for sweat and nostalgia purposes will pay off. Ownership shouldn’t be that high, given that only 6% of the people rostered him for week long.

Sneaky PGA DFS Pick for Round 2

  • Will Gordon ($7,100) With only 1.5% of the field rostering him this week, my theory with Gordon liking tough tracks seems to be right, at least for one round. He hasn’t changed from his week-long salary because of it, and showdown formats are a great spot to use him cause even if he makes some big numbers, he will make bridies as well.

DraftKings and FanDuel The Players Championship Lineup Fill-Ins

  • Chris Kirk ($9,500)
  • Keegan Bradley ($8,900)
  • Adam Long ($7,200)
  • Brandon Hagy ($6,000)
