2023 Honda Classic PGA DFS Targets: Christiaan Bezuidenhout the Ultimate Boom/Bust Play

The West Coast swing is officially over, and that means the PGA Tour heads to Florida. The Honda Classic is the first stop, and although it is a weaker field, there is still plenty of money up for grabs in DFS. This week allows for some risk taking and lineup building that would not be possible in a normal week. With so many different ways to build, let’s dive into a few PGA DFS value plays to consider when creating teams for the Honda Classic.

PGA DFS Value Targets for Honda Classic

Shane Lowry – $10,400 DraftKings

If Sungjae Im and Shane Lowry had the same PGA DFS ownership projections, Im would be the guy to target. However, right now that is not even close to the case, with Im projected for the highest ownership of anyone on the slate. Now, that does not make him unplayable, but it does add some extra leverage to Lowry, who is a fantastic player as well. Lowry finished second here last year, has played the course a bunch and is coming off a week in which he gained seven strokes tee to green. Lowry is a great starting point for lineups, and the ownership discount is a nice benefit as well.

Christiaan Bezuidenhout – $8,200 DraftKings

With a course full of water, nobody is safe. That said, Christiaan Bezuidenhout adds extra risk on top of what the course provides. This is a boom/bust option, but one worth some shares in this wide-open field. To start, his ball-striking numbers are concerning, having lost off the tee and with the irons in three of four starts in 2023. That is a recipe for disaster at a course that has so many hazards and double bogeys lurking. However, it’s not all bad, as Bezuidenhout has elite around-the-green and putting games that can keep him in the hunt with average ball striking. Last year at Honda, he gained three strokes off the tee en route to a 25th-place finish, and he’s shown the ability to get hot with the irons. The risk is there, but if he syncs up the ball striking and putter, Bezuidenhout is a dark horse to be in contention come Sunday.

Byeong Hun An – $7,600 DraftKings

If going balanced this week, it’s very possible to have the back end of lineups land in the mid-$7,000 range with guys like Byeong Hun An. He has made four straight cuts to start 2023, and although it has been far from perfect, his game is trending in the right direction. An’s putter — which is always his weak link — has improved, and his skills around the green will be important at this venue. He has a fourth- and fifth-place finish on his Honda resume and has plenty of experience in the Florida swing in general. This is the part of the calendar where it makes sense to back An.
