League of Legends DFS: LoL DraftKings Picks & LPL Slate Breakdown | Monday 1/10

After a lengthy post-worlds break, the LPL is back in action. Tonight offers up the first of many LoL DFS slates for the year, and with each team looking to find their identity, many ups and downs can be had. Each team is getting a look at below, as well as some of their LoL DFS prospects.

LoL DFS Picks: DraftKings LPL Slate Breakdown

OH MY GOD

After an impressive summer split which saw OMG make a surprise playoff appearance, they maintain a good chunk of that roster, with only the top lane being new. Early season brings opportunity for more unpredictability, however on paper the core players for OMG appear to have not only strong LPL experience, but also room to grow. In terms of LoL DFS viability, OMG offers a solid amount, in what should be a win, however players need to keep an eye on ownership projections, as even though this seems to be the more one sided affair, TT winning is less of an upset than players might recognize.

THUNDERTALK GAMING

One of the true unknowns heading into the LPL spring split, TT brings a weird mix of retreads alongside some new potential. Frigid appears to be one to keep an eye for in the future even if it doesn’t work out immediately, and while Puff isn’t exactly a powerhouse, he still offers a veteran presence, while not being a complete dead weight. Hopefully LoL DFS players overlook TT tonight, as even though it doesn’t look appealing on paper, this roster could have some peaks, and OMG isn’t a powerhouse right now.

FUNPLUS PHOENIX

After being top contenders for most of the time they’ve been an organization, FPX is starting a new era, with a largely new roster, although one that carries enough talent to be competitive. FPX were competitive with this roster in the more serious Demacia Cup, taking second place after being reverse swept by TES. As a team with name recognition, it’s easy to envision a world where FPX finds themselves as the much more attractive underdog, and since they do carry a fair chunk of talent, taking shots on beichaun is more than fair.

ROYAL NEVER GIVE UP

Xiaohu is back to the mid lane, after RNG managed to pick up one of the only top lane prospects that would cause him to switch back to the role in bin. RNG appears to be a top team once again this split, however FPX is unlikely to be a walk in the park. In terms of talent, there’s no team more stacked on this LoL DFS slate, and since they’re unlikely to be a middling priced team too often this split, this is a great spot to load up on players like Gala.

MID-Xiaohu. Mid lane Xiaohu is back, and while it’s no guarantee the transition back goes smoothly, he’s a player that impacts the game no matter the role.

Favorite contrarian LoL DFS pick on the slate:

JNG-Frigid. TT is unlikely to cause many waves this split, and while that will make their players often unappealing for LoL DFS, there will be nights when they win, and early season matchups tend to be more volatile, making a young talent in Frigid someone to consider.
