The Jock MKT Starter Kit: MLB DFS Picks | Sept. 2

To begin, enter the MLB Daily Market when the Initial Public Offering (IPO) phase is underway. Leading up until the start of the first game, bid on players you are interested in acquiring on the open market. Is there a player who you consider a favorite to finish at the top of the rankings? Invest as much or as little as you want in their fantasy performance, with shares beginning at $1 and ranging all the way up to $25. See potential injury news that could open an opportunity for another player to acquire fantasy points? Make speculative bids for shares of the backup, hoping for that news to break after the IPO phase is complete.

The next part of the game occurs during live trading. Unlike regular MLB DFS where your plays are locked in, you can buy and sell shares of players while the games are happening based on their production and where you could see them finishing amongst the field. Track as current points, projected points, and live price for each player is updated in real-time, allowing you to track the action and invest in an instant to account for news. Trading can be done all the way up until the final pitch of the night’s final game.

Jock MKT MLB DFS Picks Tonight

Jorge Soler, OF – Atlanta Braves

Nearly the entire Braves lineup ranks at the top of Awesemo’s expert projections. And it makes sense considering Atlanta has a 7.1 implied team total heading into tonight’s matchup against Rockies right-hander Chi-Chi Gonzalez. Right-handed batters have hit 11 of the 17 homers he has allowed this season, and Soler is 7-for-21 with three home runs over the last six games. In the last three starts for Gonzalez (a span of 12 innings), he has allowed 18 hits and 14 runs while allowing a home run in each outing.

Soler has a great chance to keep his stock soaring, especially moving into Coors Field for the weekend. In fact, he is coming off his best month of the season in August, slashing .250/.365/.531 with eight home runs while drawing 18 walks. Soler did get the night off on Wednesday, making his batteries fully charged for a great matchup. As mentioned earlier, the 7.1 implied team total lends plenty of optimism for RBI and run-scoring opportunities.

Adalberto Mondesi, SS – Kansas City Royals

Edit: In a change from expectations, Mondesi is not in today’s starting lineup.

This is a great buy-low opportunity on Mondesi, who just returned last night from a lengthy stay on the injured list. Playing his first game since June 20, Mondesi went 2-for-5 with a home run, a stolen base and two runs scored. Although he struck out three times, some of that was to be expected after not facing an MLB pitcher in 73 days. Nevertheless, it is a great sign that Mondesi was able to pick up where he left off. In only 11 games this season, Mondesi is slashing .366/.381/.854 with five doubles and five home runs.

Tonight the Royals will battle against Cleveland right-hander Triston McKenzie and his 4.83 ERA. He has struggled away from Progressive Field, going 2-4 with a 5.21 ERA in 10 starts. While McKenzie does have a 0.57 ERA against the Royals in three appearances (two starts) this season, only one of those starts came in Kansas City. In that start (all the way back on May 6) he walked four batters and managed to sidestep some early trouble. The Royals have been a much better hitting team in recent months, and the lineup clearly improves with Mondesi in it.

Michael Conforto, OF – New York Mets

Assuming he gets the start tonight against Marlins right-hander Zach Thompson, there is a nice penny stock on the horizon in Conforto. Things have been rocky for the Mets of late, but somehow Conforto found success at the end of August. He has homered in two of his last three games, with both of those coming in pinch-hit appearances.

Thompson comes into tonight’s matchup with an impressive 3.16 ERA and 1.12 WHIP in his rookie season. However, it is certainly worth highlighting the staggering differences between facing lefty and righty bats. The left-handed bats are hitting .255 with a .347 on-base percentage, .453 slugging percentage and .800 OPS. In comparison, right-handed bats are only hitting .169 with a .222 on-base percentage, .290 slugging and .513 OPS. Mets manager Luis Rojas should be aware of these splits and insert Conforto into the lineup. New York is the largest favorite (-190) by a wide margin tonight, lending credence to the offense having a successful night.
