With the conclusion of qualifying and the Bluegreen Vacations Duels throughout the week, the field has been set for the Daytona 500 to kick off the official start of the 2022 NASCAR season. Last year’s champion, Kyle Larson, will lead the field to green on Sunday, as we have 500 miles of intense racing. DraftKings is also having their first ever NASCAR Millionaire Maker contest in their lobby this weekend, which certainly will add to the excitement to the NASCAR DFS slate this weekend. We’ll be taking a look at some of the best NASCAR DFS picks today for DraftKings and FanDuel Fantasy NASCAR lineups, with the focus being primarily on how to be unique in GPPs and tournaments. Taking advantage of Fantasy NASCAR Ownership Projections and gaining leverage on the field will be important to shoot up the leader boards this weekend in tournaments.

Best Daytona 500 NASCAR DFS Tournament & GPP Fantasy Picks

By now, the public has caught on to the typical “stack the back” strategy people have been preaching for years now at superspeedways. The reason being, is that this kind of race produces tight, pack racing, which leaves very little room for error out of these drivers. And just one wrong move or aggressive block can send a car turning and eliminating half of the field. Rostering drivers starting in the rear of the field help mitigate risk and offer high ceilings. But if everyone knows this strategy, how do we get different to try and take down tournaments?

There is going to be several drivers carrying massive ownership this weekend, and while they are good plays on paper, they can just as equally wreck out of this race as someone starting near them with minimal ownership. Simply leveraging ownership in a race like this can turn massive profits if the cards fall into place. Also, rostering drivers closer to the middle of the pack is a great way to get away from the chalk on Sunday, as they are in a dead spot in terms of people wanting to roster them. They don’t offer as much place differential upside as drivers in the back, but some offer real race winning upside that can pay off if they keep their nose clean. Let’s take a look at some drivers that stand out in tournaments this weekend.

Top NASCAR Driver Picks & Projections

William Byron $9,400 DraftKings $11,000 FanDuel (23rd) – The majority of NASCAR DFS players will gravitate towards the likes of Denny Hamlin and Joey Logano in this price range, but I like the pivot to William Byron, who offers similar upside to both drivers at lower ownership. Byron can be a bit of a wreck magnet, but that is more luck based than skill, and his last three clean superspeedway races have resulted in top 4 finishes.

Kevin Harvick $9,200 DraftKings $9,300 FanDuel (22nd) – Harvick is in a very similar position as William Byron, who is mentioned above, but nonetheless should be much lower owned than his counterparts in this price range that are starting in the back half of the field. While he’s not really know as a superspeedway driver, Harvick has quietly been consistent at them recently with six straight top twenty finishes. If he can avoid carnage, he should be able to contend for a top-10 finish, which would net a good amount of place differential points.

Mid-Range NASCAR Driver Picks & Projections

Bubba Wallace $8,300 DraftKings $9,500 FanDuel (16th) – This price range presents two of the highest-owned drivers on the slate in Austin Dillon and Aric Almirola. While it is hard to get away from them, Bubba does present upside here at a fraction of the ownership. He has finished first and second in his two most recent superspeedway races and he tends to be quite racy at these tracks. If Dillon or Almirola happen to find trouble, there is massive leverage to be had in this price range with drivers not starting as deep in the pack.

Ricky Stenhouse Jr. $7,900 DraftKings $7,200 FanDuel (18th) – Wrecky Spinhouse is not a name made for nothing, he is known for his constant cautions and wrecks, but he actually does have a lot of upside at these tracks. He’s better overall at Talladega, but he has one of the best average running positions of all drivers here. The finishes haven’t been there for him, but he can be more of a wreckers or checkers type, which does make him appealing in tournaments rather than cash games. The starting spot is not safe, but we are searching for potential race winners or top-5 finishers in this range.

Be sure to tune into the Daytona 500 NASCAR DFS Strategy Show on Saturday at 4 p.m., where Chris Pennell and Phill Bennetzen will be giving their favorite NASCAR Fantasy picks and predictions for DraftKings and FanDuel lineups.

NASCAR Driver Value Picks & Projections

Corey LaJoie $5,500 DraftKings $5,000 FanDuel (24th) – He doesn’t offer a ton of place differential upside compared to others in this price range, but LaJoie has been phenomenal at picking up good finishes at the Daytona 500 as he’s earned five top 20s the past six races here. He also has an average finish inside the top 15 and is averaging nearly 50 fantasy points per race. With his higher starting position, most NASCAR Fantasy players will tend to lean the other way.

Ty Dillon $5,200 DraftKings $3,500 FanDuel (26th)  – Dillon is back in the cup series this year driving for Petty GMS in the No. 42 car and he will be one to watch for on Sunday as far as NASCAR DFS players are concerned. Dillon has very similar numbers to LaJoie when it comes to plate racing and if they can just avoid carnage and finish the race, they should improve upon their starting positions. Similar to LaJoie, he’s not starting that far back, which will keep his ownership lower. But these are two good spots to take advantage of in tournaments.
