Kevin Durant will have an MRI on Monday after the Brooklyn Nets forward injured his right knee against the Miami Heat on Sunday. The Kevin Durant injury update comes with the Nets in the midst of an 18-2 stretch that has catapulted them back among the NBA championship favorites and Durant among the top MVP candidates.

Durant was injured in the third quarter of the 102-101 win. Heat forward Jimmy Butler fell into Durant after having a shot blocked near the rim.
“I was right there. Those plays are scary,” Nets guard Kyrie Irving told ESPN. “Because when someone’s not looking [at] what’s going on, anything can happen in those moments, so I’m grateful that all that time he’s put in the weight room, putting his body in a great position, his body was able to save him from something worse.”
Brooklyn (27-13) has climbed to one game behind the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference. The Nets’ next game is at home against the Celtics on Thursday.

Brooklyn is +800 to win the NBA championship and +460 to win the Eastern Conference, behind the Celtics and Milwaukee Bucks in each, per FanDuel.
Durant, who is averaging 30.0 points (fifth), 6.8 rebounds and 5.4 assists this season, is +900 to win NBA MVP, the fifth best odds. He injured the MCL his left knee Jan. 15 last year and was out almost two months.
“Obviously it would be a massive blow for us,” Nets guard Joe Harris said. “But at the same time it presents opportunities for everybody else, and we have a lot of depth for reasons like this, for everybody just to step up and collectively try and fill that void.”
