Tuesday’s NBA slate is tipping off an hour later than usual, though there is still a fun puzzle to solve, even with a six-team player pool. The action for the three-game main slate gets underway at 8 p.m. ET on DraftKings and FanDuel. Let’s look at the player pool to discuss the top NBA DFS building blocks for DraftKings and FanDuel lineups.

NBA DFS Picks: Tuesday, Jan. 3
Core Play of the Day — Giannis Antetokounmpo: Milwaukee Bucks-Washington Wizards
- Stokastic’s Preliminary Point Projections: DraftKings: 58.54 | FanDuel: 56.75
- Stokastic’s Preliminary Rostered Projections: DraftKings 30.1% | FanDuel: 29.7%
- DFS Salary: DraftKings: $12,100 | FanDuel: $12,300
Tonight appears to be a straightforward three-game slate. Of course, this is The Association and anything can happen with regards to player availability and late-breaking news. Giannis Antetokounmpo (knee) missed this matchup on New Year’s Day when the Bucks fell to the Wizards 118-95. Khris Middleton (knee) remains out, but Jrue Holiday (illness) is on track to return after missing the last three games.
Antetokounmpo carries the best median projection in tonight’s thin player pool, so we will want to focus on him as the core building block for our main lineups. Milwaukee has lost five of six and is now tied with Cleveland and behind Boston and Brooklyn in the Eastern Conference standings. The two-time NBA MVP continues to churn out fantasy points in the mid-50s, which is right in line with what he has produced over the last five seasons. Expect around 35 minutes of run with upside for more if the Wizards can keep this game close.
Domantas Sabonis: Sacramento Kings-Utah Jazz
- Stokastic’s Preliminary Point Projections: 50.5 | FanDuel: 48.02
- Stokastic’s Preliminary Rostered Projections: 22.5% | FanDuel: 28.5%
- DFS Salary: DraftKings: $10,500 | FanDuel: $10,300
Domantas Sabonis has been dealing with a thumb injury on his right hand, but the southpaw has continued to produce through the pain. Since the beginning of December, the 26-year-old has played in 14 games, averaging 36.2 minutes and regularly clearing the 50-fantasy-point threshold. Though he is only taking 11.9 field goal attempts per game in this stretch, he has a 67.7% success rate while averaging 21.4 points, 14.4 rebounds, 7.0 assists and 1.3 combined blocks and steals. Tonight he should be able to thrive against the likes of Walker Kessler, Kelly Olynyk and Jarred Vanderbilt and be in the mix to add another double-double to his league-leading 26 and potentially his fourth triple-double of the season.

Lauri Markkanen is an interesting option with a 2.5 over/under on his made 3-pointer prop in his matchup against the Kings on his home floor tonight. This season, The Finnisher is taking a career-high 7.1 3-pointers per game with a 42.9% conversion rate, which works out to 3.0 made 3’s per game. He has three or more troikas in 20 of his 36 (56%) of his games this year.
The NBA Bet Pro projections have him splashing 3.2 3-pointers for a 63% probability of surpassing this milestone at -165 on BetMGM. The heavy juice but high probability of success make this the ideal wager to work into a straight or same-game parlays for additional payout potential.

Boston Celtics-Oklahoma City Thunder
Tonight is the second stop for Boston as part of a four-game road trip. The Celtics currently lead the league with a 26-11 record, and they have a meeting with the white-hot Mavericks on Thursday. Robert Williams III (knee) is the only player currently on the injury report; however, it would not be a complete surprise to see a veteran or two get the night off with the team favored by nearly double digits.
The Thunder have been pesky at home with a 10-9 record, and with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander looking like a potential superstar and Josh Giddey making great strides in his sophomore campaign, Oklahoma City could keep this game within reach. If everyone is a go for Boston, the focus should, of course, be on Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown as the primary options.
