NBA Fantasy Picks: DraftKings + FanDuel Boom Candidates

James Johnson vs. Hawks: $3,000 DraftKings/$3,500 FanDuel

51% DraftKings Boom/48.8% FanDuel Boom

Pelicans’ injury situation needs an update. Zion Williamson, Lonzo Ball and Brandon Ingram are all questionable after missing last night’s game. For now, the Boom vs. Bust tool assumes all of these guys are going to be out again, which is leading to massive boom scores for Johnson, Eric Bledsoe, Josh Hart and Nickeil Alexander-Walker. Last night Johnson went from out of the rotation to starting because of all the injuries. He made the most of the situation by scoring 28.75 DraftKings points in 28 minutes. If Johnson starts again, he is impossible to avoid at a minimum salary. The Pelicans are good chalk if this team is short-handed again.

Fred VanVleet vs. Warriors: $8,200 DraftKings/$7,400 FanDuel

21.4% DraftKings Boom/44.9% FanDuel Boom

Kyle Lowry remains out because of a foot injury, and it will likely force him to miss an extended period of time. As a result, there are some underpriced players on the Raptors until the pricing algorithm catches up. VanVleet and Pascal Siakam both look like excellent plays tonight, with VanVleet criminally underpriced on FanDuel even if Lowry was active. In addition, there is also a bit of extra usage to go around since Norman Powell was traded at the deadline. With Powell and Lowry off the court this season, VanVleet leads the Raptors with a 31.2% usage rate and scores over 45 fantasy points per 36 minutes.

Giannis Antetokounmpo vs. Blazers: $10,900 DraftKings/$11,000 FanDuel

26.1% DraftKings Boom/34.5% FanDuel Boom

If the Pelicans’ players get ruled out again, Giannis is going to make it into most of my lineups by default. By a wide margin he’s the expensive player on this slate with the highest boom score. Luka Doncic is the only player that comes close, and he has a boom score of about half of what Antetokounmpo has. If there as much value as last night, there may even be an opportunity to get both of them into most of our lineups. Giannis is the no doubt top high-end option on a slate where it looks like there will be plenty of value to spend up for him.

John Wall vs. Celtics: $7,800 DraftKings/$8,400 FanDuel

65% DraftKings Bust/65.5% FanDuel Bust

Wall’s production down the stretch of the season has been concerning. He is having a solid fantasy season and appears in line for extra usage with Victor Oladipo no longer on the team, but the Rockets will likely not push him too much. Wall is battling knee soreness and Houston is well out of the playoff picture at this point. Wall should see a lot of rest and games with limited minutes over the last couple months of the season.
