College Football Week 2 DFS Picks, Projections and More | Friday, September 8

College football Week 2 continues with a two-game Friday slate. CFB DFS differs from traditional NFL DFS in a few key areas. Rosters do not require a defense and instead incorporate a superflex where a second quarterback can be rostered. With the exception of short slates, using a second quarterback generally makes the most sense. From there, traditional stacking rules and other general football DFS strategies apply (such as looking at college football ownership projections). With that said, let’s get into the CFB Week 2 DFS picks and projections for Friday, Sept. 8.

CFB Week 2 DFS Picks and Projections

Quarterback

Jalon Daniels ($7,500): Jalon Daniels missed Week 1 against Missouri State due to back tightness, but he projects to play this week. Last year Daniels completed 66.1% of his passes for 8.8 yards per attempt while rushing for an additional 425 yards. A full game would make Daniels the top overall quarterback play on the slate. There is still a chance that Jason Bean ($7,300) will see the field in some capacity, which makes him a little riskier than usual.

Luke Altmyer ($6,400): Luke Altmyer threw for 206 yards on 26 attempts in Week 1 while rushing for another 69 yards on the ground. He is the only clear starting quarterback on this slate who should comfortably play 100% of the snaps.

Tayven Jackson ($7,700): While Daniels and Altmyer remain the clear top two quarterbacks, Indiana should be considered the ultimate GPP situation. Indiana has a massive team total over bottom-feeder Indiana State. Both Tayven Jackson and Brendan Sorsby played in Week 1, but Jackson will start this game. Jackson looks to have the superior mobility and should have more upside in this spot.

Running Back

Devin Neal ($6,300): Kansas demolished Missouri State in Week 1, but Devin Neal predictably worked as the top back. He touched the ball 16 times before Daniel Hishaw ($5,500) and Dylan McDuffie ($5,600) came in as change-of-pace backs. It should be noted that Sevion Morrison ($5,000) touched the ball eight times, but all of those occurred in the fourth quarter. This makes Neal the top running back play on the slate, with McDuffie and Hishaw being interesting GPP plays.

Jaylin Lucas ($6,200): Jaylin Lucas led Indiana with 12 touches last week on 31 snaps. Josh Henderson ($6,800) played 32 snaps himself, but he only received five touches. As massive favorites, Lucas should get the edge over Henderson.

Josh McCray ($4,500): Illinois used a pure 50/50 timeshare between Reggie Love III ($4,400) and Josh McCray last week. Love out-touched McCray 13-12, but McCray  participated in more routes. McCray also weighs 235 pounds and profiles as the pure goal line back. With more paths to a ceiling, McCray is the slightly better play than Love.

Wide Receiver

Lawrence Arnold ($6,000): Luke Grimm ($5,700) tentatively expects to play in this game, but he still carries the questionable tag after suffering an upper-body injury in Week 1. Behind him, Lawrence Arnold turned four targets into 77 receiving yards on a 93% route share. Quentin Skinner ($5,200) also recorded 77 receiving yards on six targets and a 71% route share. He should play the WR3 position when all of the wide receivers play at full health.

Isaiah Williams ($5,500): Pat Bryant ($6,400) led Illinois in receiving in Week 1 with 59 yards, but he only participated in 56% of routes. Last year’s WR1, Isaiah Williams participated in 97% of routes and led the team with eight targets. This should be a solid bounce-back spot for Williams.

Donaven McCulley ($4,200): Cam Camper ($6,700) led Indiana with five targets last week, but he only participated 59% of the routes. Donaven McCulley only saw two targets, but he led the team with a 77% route share. These are the top two receivers, followed by DeQuece Carter ($5,100), who also participated in 59% of the routes.

Dakota Caton ($4,300): Indiana State got slaughtered by Eastern Illinois 27-0 last week and will be a massive underdog against Indiana. With that said, Indiana State fed Dakota Caton targets in Week 1. He handled 14 targets on a 100% route share. For those looking at other deep Indiana State targets, Harry Van Dyne ($3,900) and Kevin Barnett ($3,800) participated in 97% of the routes each.
