NFL DFS Wide Receiver Picks for Week 2 – Early Player Projections Overview

Two of the NFL’s most explosive wide receivers, Tyreek Hill and Justin Jefferson, are not part of the main slate for Week 2, so we’ll have to look elsewhere for our high-upside NFL DFS wide receiver picks.

Stefon Diggs, Buffalo Bills

Priced at $8,000 on both DraftKings and FanDuel, Stefon Diggs is showing up as Stokastic’s number one receiver in early DFS projections for Week 2. He’s pegged for 21.39 points on DraftKings (2.67 Value) and 16.59 points on FanDuel (2.07 Value) and has a slate-high 20.5 percent boom probability on DraftKings (20.7 percent on FanDuel) in this Week 2 meeting with the Raiders.

Diggs was effective in Week 1 despite the Bills losing, as he recorded 10 receptions for 102 yards and a touchdown while playing 84 percent of the team’s snaps. Now he gets a favorable matchup against Las Vegas at home, with Buffalo’s projected team total of 27.75 being the highest of any team on the slate this week.

Looking over the data team’s early NFL DFS projected ownership for Week 2, Diggs is projected for 16.4 percent ownership on DraftKings and 20.5 percent ownership on FanDuel.

Deebo Samuel, San Francisco 49ers

The 49ers trounced the Steelers 30-7 to open the season and now enter Week 2’s game against the Rams favored by a touchdown with a projected team total of 26 points. Deebo Samuel, by his standards, was quiet in the win over Pittsburgh, finishing with five catches for 55 yards and two rushes for five yards. Even so, Stokastic’s DFS projections are favoring him for this matchup against Aaron Donald and company, at least early on in the week.

At time of writing, Samuel has a 15.7 percent boom probability at a very affordable price of $5,600 on DraftKings and a 9.7 percent boom probability on FanDuel at $6,900. Only Diggs has a higher projected boom probability at the WR position for Sunday’s main DraftKings slate.

Samuel played 87 percent of the snaps in Week 1 and is a weekly big-play threat the 49ers like to move around the field and get involved in different ways, so it makes sense to see him pop at his suppressed DraftKings salary.

While it’s Diggs and Samuel that get the two highlight spots for now, it’d be silly not to bring up Ja’Marr Chase as he looks to rebound from a shaky Week 1. Chase offers a sky-high weekly ceiling and he checks in with an 11.8 percent boom probability on DraftKings and a 13.4 percent boom probability on FanDuel for Week 2 against the Ravens.

NFL DFS Wide Receiver Fades for Week 2 – Early Player Projections Overview

Rashod Bateman, Baltimore Ravens

Rookie Zay Flowers immediately established himself as quite the target hog in Baltimore’s Week 1 win over Houston. It was, however, a quiet day for fellow wide receiver Rashod Bateman (three catches on three targets for 35 yards), who was unable to come close to paying off his salaries on DraftKings and FanDuel.

Bateman still appears to be working his way back to full strength — he played only 39 percent of the team’s snaps in Week 1 — so DFS players may want to keep shying away for the time being. Mark Andrews also has a decent chance of suiting up in Week 2 after practicing in a limited fashion on Wednesday and Thursday. We know how much Lamar Jackson loves throwing the ball his way, and Flowers and Odell Beckham Jr. are firmly in the mix for touches as well.

Ahead of Week 2, Stokastic’s NFL DFS projections have Bateman projected for a pedestrian 7.85 points at $5,100 on DraftKings and 6.46 points at $5,700 on FanDuel. His bust probability is 68.3 percent on DraftKings and 58.2 percent on FanDuel.

Allen Lazard, New York Jets

Garrett Wilson, Allen Lazard and the rest of the Jets pass-catchers are a lot less appealing in general now that it will be Zach Wilson throwing them the ball and not Aaron Rodgers, irrespective of the Week 1 win. None of the team’s receivers are grading out particularly well in Week 2’s road game against the Cowboys, and New York has a projected team total of just 14.5 points, the lowest of any team this week.

As far as Week 2 boom and bust probability ratings go, Lazard has a 61.0 percent bust probability and 0.7 percent boom probability on DraftKings, while showing a 49.8 percent bust probability and 0.2 percent boom probability on FanDuel.

Wilson and Lazard are sure to be low-owned on both sites in Week 2, but the Jets may simply be too tough to trust for DFS purposes given the clear downgrade at quarterback. Wilson should at least dominate target share as the undisputed top dog in the receiving group.

IMPORTANT REMINDER: Track all relevant player status changes and stay glued to Stokastic’s updated NFL player projections as Sunday lock approaches, as any notable news could shift the data and open up better values.
