With 132 players in the field at this week’s PGA Tour event at TPC Scottsdale, there will be plenty of opportunities to find golfers that not a lot of gamers know about and create the edge necessary to score big this week at the 2022 Waste Management Phoenix Open.
Let’s start by going over the top-10 projected golfers on the slate. Check out the entire field’s PGA DFS ownership projections before building fantasy golf lineups on DraftKings and FanDuel.

- 12 golfers
This week, a strong field, accompanied by strong pricing, gives us 12 golfers priced above $9K. However, one of the biggest question marks of the week is the golfer that’s projected to be the highest-owned of the slate — Daniel Berger. After withdrawing from last week’s AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, Berger and his bad back are here in the desert planning for warmer weather. As of right now, he’s the only golfer projected over 20%, while Jon Rahm, Viktor Hovland and Xander Schauffele are all trending towards that 20% number. Scottie Scheffler, Justin Thomas and two-time champion of the event Hideki Matsuayama are all projected to be owned between 15-20%.
Then there’s a bit of a drop off when you go to golfers like Jordan Spieth, Sam Burns and Bubba Watson. They will all be owned between 10-15% this week.

That leaves us just one golfer this week priced above $9K that will be owned under 10%, and that’s defending champion Brooks Koepka. Koepka hasn’t had a top-10 finish in a PGA Tour event since The Open Championship back in July, and over that timespan has missed the cut three times and withdrew once. So it’s no secret why gamers don’t want to roster him, but a two-time champion of the event and someone with Koepka’s prowess shouldn’t be overlooked.
PGA DFS Mid-Range ($8,900-$7,500)
- 20 golfers
With recent first-time winners Tom Hoge and Luke List breaking through, it’ll be interesting to see what PGA DFS players do with them here this week. List is projected with close to 20% ownership, while Hoge is coming in around 9%. Plenty of others are garnering a ton of attention from this price range, including Talor Gooch, Billy Horschel, Russel Henley, Webb Simpson and Seamus Power. All of them have projected ownership between 14-20% this week.
After these six golfers, there’s quite a bit of a drop off in terms of projected ownership, as none of them will get over 12%. A few that will get over 10% this week, including
- Harold Varner
- Andrew Putnam
- Si Woo Kim
With so much attention going to the aforementioned golfers, and golfers priced higher, it leaves quite a few big names that are going to be under 10% owned this week.
Top Contrarian Fantasy Golf Picks
With a plethora of big names that have less than 10% ownership this week, an affinity for any of them should bode for those looking for leverage in this price range. A few golfers that are intriguing this week include Tony Finau, Louis Oosthuizen, Abraham Ancer, Keith Mitchell and Max Homa.

Just Aaron Wise, out of the 100-or-so golfers left in the field, is projected with more than 10% ownership. It makes sense given his upside, and after just one missed cut, is one of the best values on the board this week. In fact, with 62.7 projected points this week, he has the highest projection of any golfer priced under $7.5K this week. There are a few other golfers that should get close to 10% owned this week, including
- Denny McCarthy
- Charles Howell III
- Keegan Bradley
- Troy Merritt
Outside of these five, none of the rest are going to be owned over 5%. Using Awesemo’s PGA DFS projections, the golfer with the highest projection not in those five golfers is Gary Woodland.
Be sure to check out how all of the Awesemo experts are ranking these golfers in the Pro Plays Tool.
