World Cup DFS Picks Netherlands Memphis Depay

The 2022 World Cup main slate has each nation with a game under its belt. There have been massive upsets, and the United States hopes to continue the trend against England on Friday. Netherlands looks unstoppable and will take on Ecuador, which impressed in its opening match but will have its hands full as +425 underdogs on the moneyline. Senegal is the second highest favorite against Qatar, which looks to bounce back after a lackluster effort in the opening day match. Is there value in the England vs. USA match? Let us discuss the best World Cup DFS picks to stack Senegal and Netherlands.

Memphis Depay (DraftKings: $9,900; FanDuel: $19)

Cody Gakpo (DraftKings: $9,600; FanDuel: $18)

Memphis Depay is back and ready to go after a sub appearence in the opening match for Netherlands. He handles all set shares along with the PK. Depay averages north of three shots per match and the only knock is the on-target rate, which falls shy of 35%. His crossing volume sits north of five per match with a team-leading 4.71 scoring chances created. Lastly, he leads the team sheet with 2.22 drawn fouls on average. The salary on Depay is stupid, and there is little to hold back rostering him north of the 60% ownership he is projected for, according to the Stokastic World Cup projections. He is the top play on both sites, and the construction comes in to stack with him.

Cody Gakpo will garner ownership but is missing the floor that comes with set shares now that Depay is back. Rostering him will come at the cost of the likes of Harry Kane and the highest favorites in England. Kane is dealing with an ankle injury concern, so if he plays, there is reason to believe he could not see the match out. England has a pool of talent up front that can find the back of the net, though history shows Kane contributes on over 50% of its goal contribution. Steven Berghuis and Steven Bergwijn are not cheap, so ownership will take a step down and pivot to England’s attack. They are in line as GPP plays but are not proving optimal in the same lineup. Frenkie De Jong is cheap enough for a flier on DraftKings at $4,800 and sees enough through ball action in hopes his attackers finish a delivery, like in the opening match for his nation.

Ismaila Sarr (DraftKings: $7,200; FanDuel: $19)

Idrissa Gueye (DraftKings: $4,000; FanDuel: $12)

Senegal gets its crack at Qatar, but history surely cannot repeat itself. This should not be a high-scoring affair, but two goals is easily in the realm of possibilities for Senegal. Ismaila Sarr leads the attack and does everything in open play from drawn fouls to shot volume. He had six created chances against Netherlands to go with three shots, all off target in the 2-0 loss. That is a small sample, but remember he leads his club side of Watford with 2.32 shots per match and 3.18 created chances. There are enough teams in the English Championship that grade out better than Qatar. A goal hunting option up top is Boulaye Dia, who posted just two shots against Netherlands but averages 1.51 shots per match for his club side in Serie A and hits the target at an impressive 64% accuracy. The asking price is too cheap on DraftKings, making him a top GPP value play at the forward specific spot. On FanDuel, there are better options for $1 more in Sarr, Gakpo and Depay.

Pricing is already soft on this main slate, and to top it off, we have events from the opening match that open the top value play of the slate on DraftKings, according to the Stokastic World Cup projections, with a value of 2.44 and 9.78 projected points: Idrissa Gueye. He handled the indirect sets and corners with Ismaila Sarr on the pitch throughout the match. His price tag will eventually adjust, but until then, Gueye will allow any combination of Netherlands and England stacking.

Other Options: Bukayo Saka (DraftKings: $8,300; FanDuel $21); Harry Kane (DraftKings: $10,100; FanDuel $22)

Kieran Trippier (DraftKings: $7,700; FanDuel $15)

England’s defense will once again grade out as the best options. Kieran Trippier is the top option on DraftKings with Luke Shaw a close second. Shaw comes in discounted, making him the better cash game play. Trippier’s performance from the previous meeting and high asking price might bring ownership down, and a GPP play with his upside on sets makes all the sense in the world. On FanDuel, the lack of direct attempts is harder to find, though a contribution through an assist is tempting upside. Shaw gives a few dollars savings on FanDuel with the same requirements. On DraftKings, Gueye is salary relief enough, but his asking price on FanDuel is too much. The defender spots from two underdogs offer upside with clears and blocked shot volume at discounted rates from Walker Zimmermann and Piero Hincapie. Denzel Dumfries is a pay up attacking option listed as a defender on FanDuel.

Other Options: Daley Blind (DraftKings: $5,000; FanDuel $9); Abdelkarim Hassan (DraftKings: $3,800; FanDuel $8)
