NHL Power Plays: DraftKings + FanDuel DFS Picks | Mar. 10th

NHL DFS Picks: Centers

Connor McDavid ($9,200 DraftKings/$8,800 FanDuel), Grades

McDavid is coming off a 2-point game against the Senators where he managed to hit the shot bonus on DraftKings for a 21.8-fantasy-point night. Edmonton will get the benefit of being at home again with last change. Dave Tippett will likely find some spots to get better matchups to open the ice up for McDavid, Leon Draisaitl and Kailer Yamamoto. Ottawa has played better hockey lately, but their goaltending has been the worst in the league. Together they are giving up the most goals against in the league (3.92), and they have the worst save percentage in the league (.878).

The Oilers are 5-0 head-to-head this year with Ottawa, and they have at least 3 goals in every game played. McDavid is averaging 4 shots per game, and he has hit the shot bonus five out the last 10 games. Don’t overthink it.

Nathan MacKinnon ($8,700 DraftKings/$8,300 FanDuel), Grades

We need to keep an eye out for news, but MacKinnon should most likely be back tonight. He is the Avalanche’s best player and the focal point of the team. With MacKinnon coming back, we also need to watch morning rushes because lines will be different than previous games. MacKinnon is coming back from an upper-body injury that sat him out for three games. Before he was sidelined, he had points in four straight and was averaging just under 4 shots per game.

The Coyotes are still struggling to find their identity, and even though they found a way to to be victorious against the Avalanche on Monday, they have struggled defensively. The Coyotes are 30th in Corsi, 24th in shots against per 60, 23rd in scoring chances against per 60, 30th in high-danger chances against per 60 and 27th in expected goals against. MacKinnon should have some extra jump with the extended layoff, and he will surely get plenty of chances to find twine.

NHL DFS Picks: Wingers

Tyler Toffoli ($7,000 DraftKings/$6,600 FanDuel), Grades

Toffoli remains on almost a point-per-game pace, which would be one of the best years of his career. He has 21 points and gets great matchups playing on the third line, as opposing teams don’t have the depth to compete. Josh Anderson came back last game from a three-game absence due to a lower-body injury and managed to find the back of the net on Monday. Travis Green changed it up on Monday and sent the Bo Horvat line to match up with the Canadiens third line for 36% of the game. The Horvat line has been a better matchup than the J.T. Miller line defensively. They are allowing 34 shots allowed per 60 and 36 scoring chances allowed per 60. Toffoli didn’t have a ton of issues with the matchup, as he put 4 shots on net.

The Canucks have been brutal defensively. They are giving up the fourth-most goals against per game (3.32) while allowing the second-most shots against per game (33). Over the last 10 games, the Canucks are also allowing the second-most scoring chances, and they rank 30th in expected goals against per 60 at five-on-five.

If you want to match up with the depths of the Canucks, the Habs second line of Jonathan Drouin, Nick Suzuki and Joel Armia will see the bottom-six pairings. They all correlate fully on the top power play as well, and at $12,600 on DraftKings they could make a nice filler.

Rickard Rakell ($4,900 DraftKings/$6,400 FanDuel), Grades

Rakell has found a groove. He has four multi-point games out of his last six, averaging 2 real points a night in that time. The Kings have played good hockey over the past 10 games, but they can still be had, as evidenced by Monday’s 6-5 track meet. Rakell will likely stay away from the Anze Kopitar line all night, which is the line to avoid. He will see the depth lines for most of the game, and if he can’t keep his shot volume up where he’s been (3.3 per game in last 10), he will get plenty of chances to keep his scoring streak alive.

NHL DFS Picks: Defensemen

Tyson Barrie ($6,300 DraftKings/$5,200 FanDuel), Grades

Barrie broke his four-game point drought Monday against the Senators with a helper, and he was able to fire off 6 shots on goal to get the shot bonus on DraftKings. In two games straight, Barrie has logged at least 24 minutes of ice time. He is also quarterbacking the top power play for Edmonton. The Senators have allowed opposing teams to fire at will from the point, and they are allowing the most fantasy points in the league to opposing defensemen. Add in the fact that Ottawa has been the second-most short-handed team in the league, (74% penalty kill), and you have a nice play.

Alexander Edler ($4,700 DraftKings/$4,100 FanDuel), Grades

Edler continues to be a consistent fantasy producer. He is logging 22 minutes of ice time on a nightly basis, and over the last 10 games, he contributed just under 5 shots/blocks per game. He doesn’t get any power-play time anymore, which is hurting his ceiling, but finding a value defenseman that is as consistent as Edler wont come by often. The Habs have a ton of fire power, and Edler will likely see extra block opportunities tonight.

Jonas Brodin is the same price as Edler on FanDuel, and he has 4.5 shots/blocks per game. Brodin will see a ton of block opportunity against the lethal Golden Knights tonight.

Top Stacks

Edmonton 1: Leon Draisaitl – Connor McDavid – Kailer Yamamoto

Similarly to Monday’s slate we know this line is going to be popular. That said we also know this line has a great matchup with a terrible defensive team giving them the highest probability of being a top 2 stack by a huge margin. On DraftKings especially this line is still carrying a good bit of leverage at 9.3% currently making them the top play with no comparison.

Colorado 1: Gabriel Landeskog – Nathan MacKinnon – Mikko Rantanen

Next down on the totem pole of top 2 stack percentage on both sites is the reunited Colorado top line. With Nathan MacKinnon back in the fold this line instantly becomes a must play again in all formats. With Edm1’s price and popularity this line is going far under-owned in relation to their top stack probability on both sites at under 12% projected ownership.

Montreal 2: Jonathan Drouin – Nick Suzuki – Joel Armia

On small slates such as today’s it’s often hard to find value lines in a great spot with manageable ownership and compatibility with all the big stacks like those mentioned above. With ownership projected under 7% on both sites and workable price tags on both site you can stack this trio from Montreal with big upside and full correlation.
