NFL Picks: Sunday Night Football | Washington vs. Eagles

NFL Picks: Washington -3.5 (FanDuel)

Sitting at -4 across most sportsbooks, FanDuel displays the importance of OddShopper. FanDuel provides the best edge against the spread for the Washington Football Team as the only book with -3.5. As for stylistic matchup, Washington clearly looks like a team with something to play for, while Philadelphia has already packed it in. Just glancing at the injury report, Philadelphia will play this game without Dallas Goedert, DeSean Jackson, Miles Sanders, Fletcher Cox and Derek Barnett, among others. Conversely, Washington projects to play at full strength, returning Antonio Gibson, Terry McLaurin and Alex Smith.

After a shaky start in his return from injury, Smith has played reasonably well down the stretch. Prior to his tw0-game absence, Smith actually threw for 296 yards and a score against the Steelers’ defense in Week 13. Washington also won their four most recent games with Smith active. Since then, they’ve dropped two straight with Dwayne Haskins at the helm. Washington can also bank on the return of Gibson to give this unit a boost. Prior to his injury, Gibson logged two straight games of at least 94 rushing yards.

On defense, have allowed most of their production through the air. They have allowed 7.3 yards per pass attempt, which ranks fifth worst. Conversely, Washington has played some of the best defense in the NFL. This unit allows just 6.0 yards per reception and 4.2 yards per carry to opposing offenses. When these teams met back in Week 1, Washington generated two interceptions and one fumble from Carson Wentz on their way to a 27-17 victory.

While Jalen Hurts will quarterback the Eagles this week, the same concerns remain. Already holding edges on both sides of the ball, the projected inactives swing the balance even further in Washington’s favor this week.

NFL Picks: Terry McLaurin Over 46.5 Receiving Yards (William Hill)

Slated to make his return from a Week 16 absence, McLaurin enters Week 17 with an egregiously low receiving prop. Listed at 46.5 yards at William Hill Sportsbook, the Awesemo player projections slate McLaurin for 63.6 yards receiving. Washington projects to look McLaurin’s way early and often in this must-win contest.

McLaurin also stands out from a matchup perspective, as Philadelphia ranks bottom five yards per attempt allowed to opposing signal callers. In this matchup earlier in the season, McLaurin reeled in five of seven targets for 61 scoreless yards. However, McLaurin has a 25.4% target share in Washington’s offense and has at least six targets in every game this season. Philadelphia will also miss the services of Nickell Robey-Coleman, who tested positive for COVID-19 this morning.

With volume and matchup lining up for McLaurin, taking the over on his receiving prop looks like a sharp bet ahead of Week 17 Sunday Night Football.
