LPGA DFS: The CME Group Tour Championship DraftKings Picks

Here I thought I wouldn’t be touching my keyboard until the first of the year, but DraftKings saw plenty of demand for last week’s LPGA DFS contests, with most of them selling out. It was a great showing by the community to come out and support the women, and DraftKings rewarded us players with even bigger GPPs this week. Fifty-thousand dollars to first with $150,000 guaranteed will be the largest prize pool ever for a Ladies’ fantasy golf contest, as the format brings plenty of new eyeballs to their game. So, we get to make more LPGA DFS picks this week!

This week, the last week for the LPGA Tour, the players head down to Naples, Fla. for some hopefully better weather and conditions than last week. They’ve been going to Tiburon Golf Club’s Gold Course for the season-ending tournament for some time now, so we’ll have plenty of course history to look at. There will be 72 golfers competing this week, up from the 60 it is normally. It is also a no-cut event.

LPGA Tour DFS: The CME Group Tour Championship

The Course(s): Tiburon Golf Club, Gold Course

You can bet on there being water at a Florida course and some palm trees to accompany it. It’s no different here at Tiburon, the quintessential Florida Track with water coming into play on about 70% of the holes. There’s little to no Bermuda rough here and tifeagle Bermuda fairways throughout.

Weather

Sadly, the weather from Houston is following the ladies over to Naples. Naples is much further south the Houston; the temps won’t be getting as cold, but the storms will leave conditions rather difficult on Thursday and Friday with plenty of wind and temperatures in the low to mid-60s.

DraftKings LPGA DFS Picks

Core Golfers

So Yeon Ryu ($9,900)

The 30-year-old from South Korea has been a mainstay at the season-ending tournament for some time now. In just the last four years she has three top-10s, including two top-fives, with the worst finish being 30th. She’s also in good form, finishing in the top five in two of the last three of her events and also added a 20th-place finish at last week’s U.S. Open. At $9,900, this feels like a good spot to start balanced builds rather than the stars-and-scrubs approach. Lastly, she’s fifth on the odds boards at 14-1 but priced seventh highest on DraftKings. That is not terribly inefficient, but good enough to try and leverage up top. She was 18% owned last week, which also put her around fifth or sixth highest.

Remember, this is a no-cut event, so ownership will always be inflated.

Jessica Korda ($9,200)

While sister Nelly Korda ($9,700) is still battling some rust from her weird cracking back injury from a bit ago, Jessica has maintained good form. She was one of only a few players last week to be under par at some point in the final round, which helped her get her third consecutive top-25 finish. While that’s not typically the upside we want at $9,200, she adds three straight top-13s at Tiburon, and that should provide a nice layer of stability in the lineup.

Jennifer Kupcho ($7,800)

At $7,400 last week, she really didn’t turn out all that bad, considering the fact that she came in 30th. This will be her second trip around the Tiburon course, which should bode well for her. Anna Nordqvist is in this range and coming off a week where she was the highest-owned golfer. She didn’t play all that poorly, and I see that happening again this week. Hopefully, that’ll give us a spot for Kupcho to be lower owned.

Brittany Lincicome ($6,600)

One really bad final round cost Lincicome a chance at a good finish at last week’s U.S. Open and gave her a lower salary this week. But she has a couple of top-15s in her last four starts and three top-11s in her last four tries at Tiburon. I’m definitely going to need to sprinkle in a lot of these sub-$7,000 golfers this week, but Lincicome will be among my highest share.

Maria Fassi ($6,200)

Pick your favorite boom-or-bust player from the PGA Tour, and you likely can make a good comparison to Fassi. The go-for-it mentality provides her with many birdie chances, but also many high numbers. There’s one thing we don’t have to worry about this week, and that’s her missing the cut. Four days of guaranteed action with her birdie rate? sign me up. I’ll be way overweight the field this week on the talented youngster from Mexico.
