CJ Cup PGA DFS Preview

A fixture of the PGA Tour schedule for the last four years, the CJ Cup will take place in Las Vegas for the second straight year. The first three years were played at beautiful Nine Bridges on Jeju Island, South Korea, won twice by Justin Thomas. Because of COVID-19 and local protocols, the tournament has moved to Las Vegas as part of a two-week wing. The first leg is always played at TPC Summerlin for the Shriners, while the second leg made a stop-over at Shadow Creek last year before settling in at the Summit Club for 2021.

The CJ Cup is a 72-hole no-cut event with some of the world’s best, making it one of the premier fall events.

The Summit Club Preview

Shadow Creek last year showed what a lot of money and an incredible landscape can provide in a golf course. This year will be no different, especially since it has the exact same designer, Tom Fazio. Shadow Creek is a par 72 that measures 7,400 from the back tees, and it will play shorter than that this week. The winner score last year was 20 under, which should be a good mark for golfers playing this week.

Given the surroundings and landscape that the Vegas scene offers, there are a lot of similarities between this year’s host and last year’s, and those numbers can be seen above.

Twelve of the world’s top 15 golfers are in Vegas to compete, by far the strongest field in the fall swing, as almost all the big names gather to play four rounds and get a guaranteed paycheck. Early FedEx points can prove pivotal late in the season, and many of the golfers will take advantage of the free points given out this week, even for finishing last.

CJ Cup Strokes Gained Review

The average score last year was 74 points, as the field was somewhat bunched outside of the golfers that scored over 100 points. Six of them did so, with Xander Schauffele and Tyrrell Hatton providing some in-form return, while most of the rest of the studs failed to get anything going. As it happens with new courses, typically whoever putts the best ends up winning, and that stayed true last year. Only one golfer gained fewer than 1.5 strokes putting on the week: Bubba Watson.
