PGA DFS Round 2 Recap
Two days in and Nick Taylor has played the two easier courses, as has Jason Day, and they sit first and second on the leaderboard. Taylor seemed to be in control of his whole game, but he was certainly most comfortable on the greens. Phil Mickelson has once again found a way to score in the Pebble Beach area and sits just a couple back as well. Let’s take a look at the scoring break out, as Spyglass Hill played to an over-par average today.
Monterey Peninsula
- Round 2: -1.8 (69.2)
- 36-Hole Average: -1.404 (69.596)
Spyglass Hill
- Round 2: +0.667 (72.66)
- 36-Hole Average: +0.29 (72.29)
Pebble Beach
- Round 2: -0.86 (71.13)
- 36-Hole Average: -0.47 (71.53)
PGA DFS Statistical AnalysisÂ
Two days of perfect weather provided for optimal scoring conditions. Three golfers have only one bogey through 36 holes: Day, Nick Taylor and Charl Schwartzel. A bunch more sit at only two bogeys, including Matt Every, who had a bogey-free 66 on the problematic Spyglass Hill course today.
Turning our attention to Pebble Beach, for which we have strokes-gained data, K.J. Choi was on fire with his approaches, gaining almost four strokes. Adam Schenk was close to him, but he also lost strokes putting, leading the field in shots gained ball striking versus shots gained putting (SG: BS vs. P), gaining five more. Cameron Davis, Rob Oppenheim, Jonathan Byrd and Bill Haas are the other members of the club, all gaining at least 3.70 more strokes ball striking than putting.
Turning to more traditional statistics, Sean O’Hair has hit over 90% of his greens the first two days while Day and Johnathan Byrd are just shy of that number.

PGA DFS Final-Round PicksÂ
Top-10 Pick
Matt Every ($6,400)
This is some out-of-the-box thinking and hopefully it doesn’t go against me, but Every has himself in position to make a deep run in this tournament. He needs it. He has 11 birdies and just two bogeys so far after a bogey-free round today. His off-tee game seemed to be in form after round 1, leading to a solid round 2. His irons and flat stick must have ticked up, and heading into the five par 5’s at Monterey tomorrow, he’s a must-have when stacking two or three studs.
PGA DFS Stud or Value Pick Outside of Top 10
Matthew Fitzpatrick ($9,400)
With tons of focus going to the premier studs, I’m going against the grain and playing Fitzpatrick, who hasn’t quite gotten it going. He heads to the easy course tomorrow looking for a spark. Nothing really is leading me to play Fitzpatrick, other than him being low-owned and playing the easy course, a good combination when playing such top-heavy GPPs.
Sneaky Pick Outside of Top 10
Matthew NeSmith ($6,700)
Finishing his day with a birdie streak, NeSmith played the hard Spyglass Hill at 1 under. Now working on five straight made cuts, NeSmith will look to get himself into position for his first top-10 on tour with a good round on the easy Monterry course tomorrow. His off-tee game has looked good in both of the first two rounds, gaining 1.6 in round 1 coupled with another solid showing in round 2, at least by the traditional stats.
PGA DFS Lineup Fill-InsÂ
Matt Jones ($6,600)
J.B Holmes ($7,800)
Nick Watney ($6,900)
