PLAYERS Championship Weather Report: Will Rain Persist?

Per The Weather Channel, the rain is expected to continue to hit on TPC Sawgrass at Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida throughout the evening. But those are supposed to be cleared away by tomorrow’s tee times, which should allow the PGA to finish the PLAYERS on Sunday afternoon, as scheduled.

Saturday calls for a mostly sunny PLAYERS Championship forecasts, with highs in the upper-60s and lows around 58 degrees. Wind gusts are expected to reach 11 MPH. Sunday calls for warmer temperatures, with highs reaching the 80s, but winds gusts are expected to pick up to 14-15 MPH, making for some tough conditions as the leaders are finishing their rounds.

PGA Tour Chief Referee Gary Young spoke to the media on Friday afternoon, saying the current plan is to have the remaining groups finish up their second rounds early Saturday morning. The field will then tee off the third round in threesomes with hopes they can finish 18 holes before darkness kicks in.

Two of those players still needing to complete their second round are Collin Morikawa and Scottie Scheffler. Both Morikawa (-6) and Scheffler (-5) find themselves on the first page of the leaderboard, chasing leaders Christiaan Bezuidenhout and Adam Svensson at -8.

Scheffler (+225 on DraftKings Sportsbook) is the current betting favorite to win the event. He was handling the heavy winds better than most on Friday, surging up the leaderboard with a -1 round through 10 holes before play was stopped. Morikawa was atop the leaderboard but fell off with a +1 round before play was halted.

The delay now means Scheffler and Morikawa will be asked to play extended holes on Saturday, and perhaps one (if not both) will use the momentum from the early morning play to gain some ground on the rest of the field.

Luckily, the PLAYERS Championship weather report shows we should not have any more disruptions from Mother Nature for the remainder of the weekend.
