The Winning Element: PGA DFS Optimizer Picks & Projections for 2022 Genesis Invitational DraftKings & FanDuel Lineups

All of the PGA DFS content and fantasy golf picks this week are geared toward providing information that will help with DraftKings and FanDuel daily fantasy golf, PGA odds and betting decisions in the best way possible. With the help of the Awesemo expert , this is the last of the week-long written PGA fantasy picks material for DraftKings and FanDuel at the 2022 Genesis Invitational.

PGA DFS Golf Picks This Week: 2022 Genesis Invitational

This column will include 6 to 12 players as part of the core, which earns my highest allocation on DFS and is matched with bets across the board. All three of my favorite trio of Jordan Spieth, Collin Morikawa and Patrick Cantlay are teeing it up at the Genesis Invitational. Both Morikawa and Spieth are projected as two of the lowest-owned golfers over $8,000 this week, and Cantlay is playing some of the most consistent golf in the world right now. Due to salary distribution, I will likely go a little higher on Morikawa and Spieth this week but will still have a bit of leverage on the field, as I typically do with all three of them.

PGA Weather Forecast

Pretty ideal conditions are expected for the golfers this week in Los Angeles, with slightly cool mornings. There is little to no wind in the forecast.

2022 Genesis Invitational Fantasy Golf Picks & Projections

These golfers will have anywhere between 20% and 50% allocation.

Rory McIlroy ($9,700 DraftKings/$11,300 FanDuel)

With such deep talent in the field, it is about finding those golfers that will outperform their salary the most. While golfers priced above McIlroy like Jon Rahm and Justin Thomas are playing good golf, McIlroy’s level of play is be equal to theirs. With a chance to win out on the DP World tour in his most recent starts and two top-fives here at this course, McIlroy is a good bet to outperform the salary this week.

Hideki Matsuyama ($9,300 DraftKings/$11,400 FanDuel)

Among this field, only Dustin Johnson has more top-10s in this event over the past five years than Matsuyama. Matsuyama is also playing some incredible golf over the last 10 months and is easily one of the best in the world. With three wins, including the Masters, Matsuyama has been one of the safest, most consistent options on the board. Plus, he comes with not a ton of ownership and a lower salary than other top golfers.

Will Zalatoris ($8,800 DraftKings/$10,600 FanDuel)

After a stellar performance at the Farmers, Zalatoris was set to tee it up at Pebble Beach and would have been the favorite to win the event. But a bout with COVID-19 over the last few weeks knocked him out of competition. He returns to action at another California ball striker’s paradise, as he looks to make it 2-for-2 in California this year.

Bubba Watson ($8,500 DraftKings/$8,600 FanDuel)
Max Homa ($8,300 DraftKings/ $9,700 FanDuel

Watson and Home are probably a tad closer to fringe plays for me than core plays this week based on their allocation, but they set up nicely this week. Both are playing solid golf in their last appearances and both are winners here, which should breed all the confidence needed to perform at these value salaries. Watson’s putter has looked good, or at least good for him, which will always put him in contention, while Homa’s game is a bit more volatile than Watson’s but seems to be in form right now. Plus, he is from the area and loves all things Los Angeles, so he should have all the motivation needed this week.

Matt Fitzpatrick ($8,100 DraftKings/$10,400 FanDuel)
Talor Gooch ($8,000 DraftKings/ $10,100 FanDuel)

The same sentiment for Watson and Home applies to Fitzpatrick and Gooch. While they are closer to fringe plays, their total allocation pushes them a bit higher. Gooch has had a breakthrough season, getting a win and plenty of other quality finishes over the fall swing. His main campaign had not been going great, but he found himself in one of the last pairings last week before an early double-bogey derailed his round. Now he comes to a course that has treated him well in his PGA Tour career. Fitzpatrick is playing really solid golf this year, with no finish worse than a tie for 18th and three top-10s in his four starts. That includes back-to-back top-10s at the last two PGA Tour events. He also finished top five here last year.

Fantasy Golf Picks: $7,500 or less

With such a strong field this week, there is not a reason to give any of these golfers a full 20% allocation. However, these are the golfers that will have the most allocation in my lineups this week.

Thomas Pieters ($7,400 DraftKings/$9200 FanDuel)

Pieters is back on the PGA Tour and may be playing the best golf of his entire career. When he first broke onto the scene he looked to be the next thing in golf, but emotions got the best of him. His highlight on the PGA Tour was a second-place finish at this event back in 2015, and he also played well in college here. As such, he is an easy pick regardless of his salary, as he continues to try to ascend to the top of the World Golf Rankings.

A couple of other names that are intriguing and will earn a higher allocation than others include:

  • Alex Noren
  • Francesco Molinari
  • Adam Hadwin
  • Christiaan Bezuidenhout
