Can Kyle Pitts Reach Top 5 Fantasy TE Status? 2021 Fantasy Football Rankings for Yahoo, ESPN & CBS Leagues

Kyle Pitts is one of the most interesting college prospects at the tight end position in a long time. As a top-five pick fielding comparisons to wide receivers like Calvin Johnson, saying expectations are high would be an understatement. The question now is, will Pitts be able to live up to the hype in his rookie season? Let’s take a deep dive into Pitts’ 2020 college numbers and take a look at the 2021 fantasy football projections to see what to expect from his rookie season.

2021 Fantasy Football Player Previews: Kyle Pitts

Pitts’ Production in 2020

Pitts played eight games for Florida in 2020, and he put up 43 receptions on 67 targets for 770 yards and 12 touchdowns. He managed to make SEC players look outclassed thanks in large part to his 6-foot-6, 245-pound frame mixed with 4.44 speed. That athletic profile is the main reason why he has the highest expectations of any rookie tight end in recent memory.

Pitts’ Outlook in 2021

Pitts is oozing talent, so concerns about his 2021 season have more to do with the baseline of production from rookie tight ends in the past. In the past 10 years only one rookie tight end has finished in the top five at the position: Evan Engram. So the odds are very much against Pitts when it comes to finishing as a top-five tight end, as he is being drafted. That does not mean he cannot reach that echelon, but expecting a top-five season in Pitts is a bit lofty considering the difficulty of transitioning from college to NFL tight end in Year 1.
