Can Nick Chubb Crack the Top 5 RBs? 2021 Fantasy Football Rankings for Yahoo, ESPN & CBS Leagues

Nick Chubb is coming off the board around the first round into the second-round turn, making him RB9 by ADP. Since he finished near that draft price last season while missing time due to injury, will he be able to finish as a top-12 running back again? We will deep dive into Nick Chubb’s 2020 fantasy football season to project where he will finish in 2021 fantasy football draft rankings.

Nick Chubb’s Fantasy Production in 2020

Despite being hit with the injury bug last season, Chubb was still a top-12 back in all formats. He had 1,065 yards rushing (seventh) on 190 carries (14th) and added 16 receptions (56th among backs) on 18 targets (65th) for 12 total touchdowns (fourth). One of the biggest reasons for such success is the immense amount of rushing the Browns did — a 47.78% clip, ranking fourth in the NFL. This would come as no surprise under Kevin Stefanski, who helped turn Dalvin Cook into an elite back in Minnesota.

Nick Chubb’s Fantasy Outlook in 2021

With the Browns being such a run-heavy team, it should be a no-brainer that Chubb will finish as a top-12 back yet again in 2021. The real question is, how close can he finish to that coveted No. 1 spot? With Kareem Hunt in Cleveland, Chubb’s upside is limited due to his receiving production. While Hunt was suspended in 2019 Chubb averaged four targets per game for 3.12 receptions and 20.12 yards. While that is not necessarily a world-beating number, it is an uptick from Chubb’s 2.55 targets, 1.38 receptions and 13.62 yards per game.

Without Hunt, Chubb’s ceiling is the No. 1 fantasy football running back. But with Hunt healthy, Chubb is going to struggle to see receiving work. Unless Hunt gets injured, the potential for a top-five finish from Chubb is very limited. He should still easily finish as a top-12 back but without an increase in receiving work, it is likely that he will not finish much higher than that.
