Tyreek Hill feels like an anomaly in the National Football League. Most of the time speedy receivers are very inconsistent, but Hill is the opposite. However, he is also plenty capable of massive boom games. The question at hand is, can Hill be the No. 1 wide receiver in 2021? Let’s look at his production last season and determine if he should be the first receiver off the board in the fantasy football draft rankings.

Hill’s Production in 2020
Hill had much more consistency last year compared to his 2019 production. In 2019 he had five below 12.5 half-PPR points, whereas in 2020 that only happened twice. That consistency came largely due to an increased target share. Last season Hill had 134 targets (ninth among receivers) and 87 receptions (15th) for 1,276 yards (seventh) and 17 touchdowns (second). He also showed game-breaking potential, with five games of over 25 half-PPR points. In two of those games he went over 30 fantasy points.
Chiefs Offseason Changes
One of the biggest glaring issues of the Chiefs last season was the offensive line. Patrick Mahomes was pummeled in the Super Bowl due to the line, plus the injuries that the line sustained. In free agency the Chiefs added guard Joe Thuney, center Austin Blythe and formerly retired Kyle Long. They also traded for two-time Pro Bowl tackle Orlando Brown and took Creed Humphrey in the second round of this year’s draft. And while they lost Sammy Watkins, that is unlikely to have significant impact on Kansas City’s offensive production.

Projecting the top three wide receivers in fantasy football, Hill is at the top of that list. His game-breaking potential is nearly unmatched, and the other wide receivers that can reach his level do not come with his level of safety. Hill is also in one of the best offenses in the league and has the best quarterback in the NFL. It does not get much easier to project a player than this. Even if Hill does not finish No. 1, barring injury to him or Mahomes, he is easily a top-three receiver. Take him in the first round without hesitation.
