The Jock MKT Starter Kit: NBA Picks | April 1

How to Play at Jock MKT

To begin, enter the NBA Daily Market when the Initial Public Offering (IPO) phase is under way. Leading up until the start of the first game, bid up on players you are interested in acquiring on the open market. Is there a player who you consider a favorite to finish at the top of the rankings? Invest as much or as little as you want in their fantasy performance, with shares beginning at $1 and ranging all the way up to $25. See potential injury news that could open up an opportunity for another player to acquire fantasy points? Make speculative bids for shares of the back-up, hoping for that news to break after the IPO phase is complete.

The next part of the game occurs during live trading. Unlike regular NBA DFS where your plays are locked in, you can buy and sell shares of players while the games are happening based on their production and where you could see them finishing amongst the field. Track as current points, projected points, and live price for each player is updated in real time, allowing you to track the action and invest in an instant to account for news. Trading can be done all the way up until the final buzzer of the night’s final game.

At the end of the games, each player share is paid out based on their final rankings of fantasy points amongst the field. If the shares you own are worth more than what you paid, you win money. It’s as simple as that! For more information, check out the Jock MKT website.

Strategy Session: Injured Stars

There are seven NBA games on the calendar tonight, but only five will be included for this Jock MKT Slate. The IPO closes at 7:30 p.m. ET, eliminating the two 7 p.m. ET games. Instantly what stands out about this slate is the uncertainty surrounding many of the biggest names on the board. First, let’s start with James Harden (hamstring). In a revenge situation against the Rockets last night, the durable star exited the win early with tightness in his right hamstring. His status for Thursday night against the Hornets has yet to be determined, and while Harden may want to play, it seems likely that the Nets will give him the night off. If this turns out to be true, he will join Kevin Durant (hamstring) on the sidelines, opening the door for the Kyrie Irving to become a usage monster. In the time he has played sans Durant and Harden since the latter was traded to Brooklyn, Irving has led the Nets with an insane 37.5% usage rate and a huge 43.6% assist percentage. In the event Harden is inactive, Irving would be worth the lucrative investment in the IPO.

The next All-Star who is questionable tonight is Zion Williamson (thumb). He apparently injured his thumb in Monday’s win against Boston, and reports came out Wednesday that initially the Pelicans feared Williamson could miss a few weeks. But they feel after further examination that they dodged a bullet and that Williamson may not miss any time at all. As the franchise’s prized possession, it would make a ton of sense for the Pelicans to sit the budding star tonight against a Magic team that is running out a G-League like roster following the trade deadline. On their home floor, New Orleans can easily record a win against this Orlando team without Williamson, and it feels very likely that he will not play tonight. If ruled out, there would be many names to attack from the Pelicans. Brandon Ingram is the first player that comes to mind, with a 2.8% usage bump with Williamson off the floor this season. Josh Hart, who has been on absolute fire, beating his Jock projection in six of his last eight, would also be one of the top values to target in the IPO, starter or not. It is worth noting that Lonzo Ball (hip) is also questionable for New Orleans. If he misses his sixth straight, Nickeil Alexander-Walker would remain a starter and be a tremendous target; that would be an even better buy if Williamson was also missing. In these last five with Ball absent, Alexander-Walker has produced 29.1 Jock points per game.

Jock MKT NBA Picks for Tonight

Kawhi Leonard

Instead of making us wait all night until their late tipoff, the Clippers thankfully ruled out Paul George a day ahead of Thursday’s matchup with the Nuggets. Serge Ibaka (back) and Patrick Beverley (knee) will also be out, and don’t forget the Clippers also just traded away Lou Williams to the Hawks. Marcus Morris (calf) is questionable, but regardless of his status, Leonard is going to shoulder a huge workload against Denver.

When Ibaka, Beverley, George and Williams have been off the floor this season, Leonard has averaged a team-high 33.2% usage rate and a 25.6% assist percentage. With no game last night or tomorrow, Leonard should get into the 35- to 40-minute range in this rematch from the Western Conference Semifinals this past summer. He always rises to the occasion of playing against the NBA’s best, and with an expanded role, Leonard should post a huge stat line in this duel with Nikola Jokic.

Terry Rozier

Ever since LaMelo Ball (wrist) went down for the season, Rozier has been a fantasy stud, and he isn’t getting the respect he deserves with his current IPO ranking and Jock projection. In these past five with Ball injured, Rozier is averaging 38.6 Jock points per game. During this run his usage has increased to 26% and he has led Charlotte with 37.4 minutes per game.

With the Hornets winning four of these past five, Rozier is playing with a ton of confidence right now, and his impressive play isn’t going to stop against a Nets defense that ranks 25th in defensive efficiency.

Chuma Okeke

Even with Wendell Carter and Otto Porter coming over from the Bulls in the Nikola Vucevic deal, Okeke has maintained a big role for the Magic. In these past two, with the newly acquired players both active, Okeke has started at power forward and generated 28.8 Jock points with 27.75 minutes per game. After leading Orlando with 18 points in the big upset win over the Clippers on Tuesday, Okeke should continue to see 25 to 30 minutes against a Pelicans defense that currently ranks third-to-last in defensive efficiency.

Despite the recent success, Okeke is only ranked 44th in the IPO and his Jock projection is a low 21.23 fantasy points. In a plus matchup it’s hard to imagine the rookie out of Auburn not beating this projection. Okeke is one of the top bargains of the night, according to the Awesemo expert projections.
