Tampa Bay Rays at Cleveland Indians (+130, FanDuel & William Hill)
This is the biggest differential of bets made/money spent on a moneyline this evening. As of 1 p.m. ET, about 55% of the bets made are on the favored Rays, while almost 75% of the money is on the Indians. It is also worth noting that Cleveland’s moneyline keeps going up, even with all the money going that way.
Cal Quantrill has looked much better since the calendar flipped to July. His last start, at Oakland, was one of his best yet, as he allowed only one run over five innings while striking out five. Luis Patino gets the ball for Tampa, and he desperately needs some good luck. Over his last two outings, Patino has allowed a whopping 13 hits and 11 runs (nine earned) in 8.2 innings.
Seattle Mariners vs. Oakland Athletics -1.5 (+120, BetMGM)
The Mariners are fourth worst in strikeout rate (26.7%) and fourth worst in wOBA (.295) against left-handed pitching. Sean Manaea takes the hill for the Athletics, and he will be looking to duplicate the complete-game shutout he tossed against the Mariners back on June 2. Seattle’s 3.5 implied run total is the second-lowest number on today’s entire slate.
Chris Flexen has looked great in recent outings. However, a lot of that is smoking mirrors, as he has pitched against some less-than-dynamic offenses. Tonight’s matchup against Oakland is unenviable, as the A’s are in the top 10 of ISO against right-handed pitching.
Miami Marlins vs. San Diego Padres (-138, FanDuel)
Awesemo’s Sports Betting Model loves this spot as the highest ROI (8%) on the slate. Blake Snell’s strikeouts featured in the Monkey Knife Fight article, and he will be a big factor for this Padres win as well. The Marlins own the highest strikeout rate against left-handed pitching (27.9%) and lowest wOBA (.291), so they are already behind the eight ball in that regard. Miami’s plans for pitching have yet to be revealed, and that can always cause its own set of problems. With things looking so chaotic for the Marlins, take the more put-together team.
