Of course, the first Saturday of May also means that the Kentucky Derby is on the menu. Then, the NBA takes center stage in primetime with a massive ten-game slate. No matter how your draft and Derby wagers go, there should be ample opportunity to nail some NBA betting picks later tonight. Our first featured NBA player props of the new month include picks for Kendrick Nunn, Russell Westbrook and Malachi Flynn.

Yesterday’s NBA Player Props Recap

Another day, another mixed bag of results on Friday. We nailed a nice plus-money ticket on Jonas Valanciunas as the Grizzlies big man cruised over 11.5 rebounds. Unfortunately, Anthony Davis also sailed over his rebounds prop of 7.5, a number that we bet under. Jordan Clarkson also beat us by just barely edging over 3.5 total assists. Let’s look to start the new month in style and win with more consistency here this weekend!

NBA Betting Prediction: NBA Player Props | May 1

Kendrick Nunn (MIA) Over 14.5 Points

Kendrick Nunn returned to the lineup for the Heat on Thursday night and promptly picked up where he left off as far as scoring is concerned. He shot over 57% from the floor and hit a third of his 3-point tries on his way to 18 points in 38 minutes. That output marked Nunn’s third consecutive game scoring 18 points or more, following up a pair of 20+ point performances. While he was forced to miss a game in between with a neck injury, his 38 minutes of action on Thursday suggest that it is far from a lingering issue.

Tonight, Nunn and the Heat will take on a Cleveland Cavaliers squad that has lost five straight games. Although they rank in the top half of the NBA in scoring defense, the Cavs are just 22nd in defensive efficiency on the season. Miami will be the vastly superior team on the floor tonight and should be able to take care of business. Nunn figures to be called upon to be a key cog in the effort. Fellow backcourt mates Tyler Herro and Victor Oladipo are set to remain sidelined on Saturday. The fact that the NBA betting line of 14.5 points is nearly two whole points lower than Nunn’s season per-game average cannot be ignored. The odds on the over are moving fast, so bettors are advised to get money down as soon as possible.

Russell Westbrook (WAS) Under 11.5 Assists

Russell Westbrook NBA betting NBA prediction

We nailed a plus-money NBA prediction yesterday, so why not run it back? Tonight marks the second leg of a back-to-back for Russell Westbrook and the Wizards. Winners in ten of their last 11 games, Washington is pushing hard for a spot in the Eastern Conference play-in tournament. The injury report remains void of any star names who might be trying to rest in this scenario earlier in the season. That said, tired legs will undoubtedly be a partial factor for all Wizards players tonight. After logging his third consecutive triple-double yesterday, can Westbrook exceed the NBA betting line of 11.5 assists?

The Awesemo NBA Player Props Tool is keen on taking the under here. Although Westbrook did notch a triple-double last night, his 11 assists still would’ve sufficed for a winning ticket on the under for this line. The star guard is averaging exactly 11.0 assists per game on the season, the best mark in the NBA. That being said, exceeding that average is no easy task, even for as gifted a passer as Westbrook. Although the Wizards have been winning games, Westbrook has only handed out more than 11 assists in three of the last ten games. It makes total sense to fade such a feat happening this evening after playing 31 minutes just 24 hours ago.

Malachi Flynn (TOR) Over 3.5 Rebounds

Malachi Flynn NBA betting picks

As seen in the accompanying image from the Awesemo OddsShopper Tool above, William Hill is the only sportsbook with NBA player props for Raptors guard Malachi Flynn at the time of writing. Bettors are advised to promptly back Flynn as they see fit for tonight’s game against the Utah Jazz. After winning five of six, Toronto has now lost two straight games. As hopes of a playoff/play-in tournament birth continue to dwindle, perhaps it is becoming apparent that the Raptors don’t care too much about making a late-season push after all. Kyle Lowry (rest purposes) has joined Gary Trent Jr. and Paul Watson as backcourt players who have been ruled out for Saturday.

Playing time will certainly be of no concern for Flynn in tonight’s contest. In 31 minutes on Thursday, Flynn scored 16 points, grabbed 6 rebounds and dished out 4 assists. Looking at a larger sample size of recent games, minutes have positively correlated with Flynn’s rebounding production. He is averaging 4.1 boards per game on the season. He has exceeded tonight’s NBA betting line of 3.5 in six of the last seven games he has played 24 minutes or more. In addition to the players who won’t be available tonight, Fred VanVleet missed the team’s last contest and is clearly dealing with nagging injuries of his own. There’s no reason to doubt Flynn will play anything less than 30 minutes on Saturday. This leads to a favorable NBA betting picks opportunity on the over.
