We’re looking only at the NBA odds and betting picks I like most for this Tuesday, Jan. 5 slate of games. I’ve identified a line I want to attack, which is the Kyrie Irving prop market for the Nets – Jazz game.

Utah Jazz at Brooklyn Nets: Kyrie Irving OVER 39.5 Points, Rebounds, Assists (-121, DraftKings)
Irving has topped this number just twice so far on the season, although one was last game, when he posted 30 points, 10 assists and five boards in a loss to the Wizards. The big difference this time around is that Kevin Durant (health protocols) will miss the next week, starting with this game against the Jazz.
Utah is a solid defensive team, but Irving’s usage should see a massive spike with Durant off the floor, which we have yet to see for a full game this season. Also worth noting is that Spencer Dinwiddie was ruled out for the season recently, leaving Brooklyn more thin at point guard — Caris LeVert likely will run the show during Irving’s limited breathers.
Since we don’t have any full game samples with Durant out and Irving in, there’s not a ton more analysis that goes into this one. But it is worth noting that Irving is in a little bit of a shooting slump from deep. Maybe that scares some off, but as the lone go-to guy in this game, I think there’s a chance it will help him break out with more freedom. Irving is shooting just 7-for-29 from downtown over the last three games.
