NBA Odds: Prop Bets for Aug. 18

Terrence Ross – Made 3s (Over 2.5)

The Milwaukee Bucks are elite at many things. Defending the 3-pointer, however, is not one of them. Due to the fast pace of play, there can be a lot of open transition 3s. With this being a pace-up spot for the Magic, Terrence Ross should see more scoring opportunities and more open 3-point looks.

The Bucks rank in the middle of the league, giving up a 35.5% 3-point rate to opponents. They rank last in made 3s allowed per game, at 14.0. Some of this is game flow and some of this is their struggle to defend the perimeter. Whether the game is close or it starts to get out of hand, Ross should have relatively safe minutes to hit the prop bet and profit from these NBA odds.

Ross has also been hot in the bubble. He has hit at least three 3-pointers in four of his last five games. I expect the trend to continue today.

T.J. Warren – Points (Under 21.5)

The NBA odds actually favor the over on this, so I am willing to side with the under for T.J. Warren today. The beef between him and Jimmy Butler is very real, and Butler is simply a better defender than Warren is a scorer. Last meeting (Aug. 10), Warren put up just 12 points on 5-of-14 shooting. This was also the last time Warren took the floor, which could result in a little slower start to the game.

Warren was ejected in the matchup with the Heat before that, scoring just three points in 23 minutes. In the first meeting of the season, Warren put up 16 points.

Even if he comes out aggressive, I think Butler and the rest of the Heat swarm him, preventing him from getting to 20. If they stop Warren, I don’t think the Pacers will be able to win, since they do not have enough other consistent scoring options.

Anthony Davis – PTS+AST (Over 33.5)

Anthony Davis returns to the postseason today, and he has a terrific matchup with the Blazers. Will Portland try to put Carmelo Anthony on Davis, or will he see Hassan Whiteside most of the day? Either way, it should be easy pickings for the Lakers big man.

Davis has averaged 32 points and 4.3 assists per game versus the Blazers this season. On top of that, both teams have hit the over quite often in the bubble, and I expect the total to go over again today. That creates even more scoring opportunities than these NBA odds are projecting.
