Looking for a way to learn Fantasy Golf without jumping in with both feet? We have a perfect solution for you. Yahoo and Yahoo Fantasy are offering a $15,000 freeroll called the PGA “Yahoo Cup.” This contest awards a winner for weekly events and one winner at the end of the season who has the most cumulative points. It will go for 39 weeks, with the lowest nine weeks of scoring being dropped from your total score. Each week also features a $150-to-first contest, making every round matter just as much as the last. So let’s dig into the best Fantasy Golf picks this week and DFS Golf value plays for the 2022 Valspar Championship.
Course Preview: Copperhead Course at Innisbrook Resort
The last stop of the Florida swing brings the tour to the Tampa area, and more specifically Palm Harbor. Built back in the 1970s, the Copperhead course has one of the most challenging setups on tour, with long par 3’s and 4’s, elevation changes into almost every green and some of the narrowest fairways on tour. Hitting fairways and scrambling for pars will be paramount this week. Let’s go over some other top values of the slate.
Top Three Fantasy Golf Picks This Week for the 2022 Valspar Championship
Tommy Fleetwood ($38)
It’s been three years since Fleetwood last entered the winner’s circle, which is crazy to think about, as he was a perennial winner on the DP World Tour. While he hasn’t quite got it done on the PGA Tour yet, Fleetwood seems like he’s coming out of a funk. He’s notched back-to-back top-25s against the strongest fields in golf over the last two weeks and finishes his Florida swing with his first trip to Innisbrook. His tee-to-green game is also picking up, gaining almost eight strokes tee to green at last week’s Players Championship. The week before that at the Arnold Palmer, he gained nearly six strokes putting for the week. So put the two together and it’s certainly a winning number. Obviously, putting is quite variable, but at least he isn’t in a rut with that club like he has been in years past.
Kevin Kisner ($36)
A course that isn’t overly long and requires accuracy off the tee should fit Kinser to a tee. But he hasn’t played well here, coming in 24th, 60th and missing the cut twice in his four trips. That’s likely one of the reasons that he is priced down below some of his fellow competitors this week. But with top-end form not far off, Kisner is worth the gamble, with three top-10s in the last 10 weeks. He has a few missed cuts in there as well, but when looking for upside at this price, there’s no one better right now than Kisner.
Russell Knox ($23)
Speaking of running hot, Knox has been playing well all year, making six of his last seven cuts over the last 10 weeks and recording two top-10s. He’s also found some solid success here at this event, with three straight top-25s and only one missed cut in seven trips. While the sixth-place finish last week could be the top end of his current form, at these bargain prices it’s worth a look for at least one more week.
