Spotlight Hitters & Stacks for MLB DFS Lineups | 9/13 | DraftKings, FanDuel & Yahoo

Sunday, Sept. 13, has an eight-game main slate on DraftKings and FanDuel. Yahoo is going with a 13-game main slate through the evening action. Before you lock in your MLB DFS lineups and MLB DFS picks, make sure to check out check out Awesemo’s DFS baseball MLB rankings and projections.

Main-Slate Picks

New York Yankees vs. LHP John Means – 5.7 implied runs

All eyes are going towards the NFL on Sunday and it seems that baseball is being ignored. While the contests are smaller, the content is lighter as well. A strategically selected lineup can do very well, and even though the sites have grown savvy with downsizing their contests, this also means that a lot of the mega sharks are skipping today.

While it is a somewhat obviously play, this really is a cast made up of the Off-Broadway understudies. Look to Luke Voit, Aaron Hicks and Gleyber Torres on Sunday who are by no means household names. While Means was the Baltimore representative in the MLB All-Star Game last season, that was merely because every team is required to have one player on the roster. He got off to a strong first half, but since the beginning of last season he has a 5.35 xFIP and 48.3% fly ball rate with righties getting to him for a .213 ISO.

A lot of gamers have not heard of Clint Frazier, and while some will land on him as the cleanup hitter, it will not be nearly as much of the field as it would be on an non-NFL Sunday slate. Throw in Gary Sanchez and D.J. LeMahieu and you will likely have a Yankees stack mostly to yourself.

Mid Afternoon-Slate Picks

St Louis Cardinals vs. RHP Tyler Mahle – 4.3 implied runs

While this is not an exciting game total, we know that Mahle has been abysmal against opposite-handed pitching for his career. He has improved with a 1.35 HR/9 against lefties this season, but since the beginning of 2018 he still carries a 2.28 HR/9, 20.3% home run/fly ball rate and a .248 ISO over 602 righty/lefty matchups.

Look to the top of the order where we should see at least three of the first four Cardinals swinging the stick from the left-side of the plate. Brad Miller is a journeyman, but he does have multi-extra base hit upside when facing opposite-handed hurlers. Kolten Wong and switch-hitting Tommy Edman will likely form a one-two punch leading off, and then depending on where he is slotted in or if any of the aforementioned batters get a day off, veteran Matt Carpenter should be able to rise to the occasion in this matchup.

Late-Slate Picks

Seattle Mariners at RHP Luke Weaver – 4.4 implied runs

Yes, it will certainly be more fun to stack the Coors Field Extravaganza, but that is where the masses will be as well. The Mariners have been a pesky crew this season, and they seem to surprise more often than not. We know the roof will be open, and while Weaver has been better with just two home runs allowed in his last three appearances, he has still allowed a whopping NINE in 36.2 innings. That works out close to 50 home runs in a full season which would be well in front of the pack.

While he has been solid the last two years, something is definitely off as evidenced by his 7.12 ERA and 1.66 WHIP. If we thought the Yankees mentioned above were nondescript then the Seattle batters are downright invisible. Kyle Lewis is having a nice year now that he is healthy for the first time in a few seasons, and veteran Kyle Seager continues to climb up the Mariners’ all-time batting categories. Add in Dylan Moore and recent acquisition Ty France, and we have a solid quartet that nobody is going to be looking towards with a game in the thin Denver air.
