MLB DFS Picks, Top Stacks & Pitchers: Play Brewers Against Chase Anderson with Kevin Gausman as SP1 (Sept 10)

Saturday, Sept. 10, kicks off the weekend with an eight-game featured slate including a Coors Field Extravaganza. The fun begins with a 7:05 p.m. ET first pitch, so let’s get into the top MLB DFS picks today for pitchers and stacks for DraftKings and FanDuel daily fantasy baseball lineups.

DraftKings & FanDuel MLB DFS Picks Today (9/10)

Main Slate: Milwaukee Brewers vs. RHP Chase Anderson — 5.6 implied runs

The Stokastic Top Stacks Tool likes this matchup for Milwaukee against Chase Anderson. Though things may change throughout the afternoon, currently the Brewers are evenly leveraged against the field. Anderson’s best days are long behind him and the former Brew Crew hurler has appeared in only 27 MLB games over the last three seasons. This game will likely turn into a bullpen affair for the last five or six innings and while all of the relievers are well rested after rookie Nick Lodolo spun a gem last night, this is one of the worst collection of arms in the league. Cincinnati has only one lefty in the pen, so there should not be much of a pinch hit risk for anyone in the starting lineup.

Look to the top of the order with Christian Yelich, Rowdy Tellez, Willy Adames and Hunter Renfroe serving as the core four. Differentiation can be found in the back half of the lineup with catcher Omar Narvaez or youngster Garrett Mitchell, who has been getting a lot of work over the last fortnight.

Secondary Stack: Cleveland Guardians at RHP Chris Archer — 4.0 implied runs

The Stokastic Top Batters Tool  is highlighting a few Guardians as alternatives to the Coors Field Extravaganza in their matchup against Chris Archer. These days Archer is typically capped around 80 pitches, which means an overworked bullpen will once again be tasked with picking up the slack for the rotation. Over his last 500 batters faced, Archer has a below-average 20.4% strikeout rate with an unsightly 10.8% walk rate. Though the 33-year-old journeyman typically avoids home runs, he allows his fair share of doubles and with plenty of runners on base, that can lead to crooked numbers for opposing teams.

The key Cleveland bats are typically adjacent to each other in the order, which increases their synergy. Jose Ramirez is one of the best hitters in baseball and he can be paired with Josh Naylor’s light-tower power and the steady production of Oscar Gonzalez.

Best MLB DFS Pitchers

Primary Target: RHP Kevin Gausman at Texas Rangers — 3.1 implied runs

  • DFS Salary: DraftKings $9,700 | FanDuel $10,300

Tonight the roof is scheduled to be open at Globe Life Field and while that is a boost for batters, we should still consider Kevin Gausman as the best pitching option on the slate. Gausman has been stellar this season for Toronto and he has been a top-20 pitcher with a 3.12 ERA, 1.24 WHP and 170 strikeouts. The Texas offense has been up and down this season, but their production mostly resides in their top four hitters. The back half of the lineup is below replacement level and that is where Gausman should be able to rack up strikeouts and fantasy production.

Secondary Target: RHP Jack Flaherty at Pittsburgh Pirates  — 3.1 implied runs

  • DFS Salary: DraftKings $6,900 | FanDuel $8,200

Jack Flaherty was stellar on Labor Day holding the Nationals to just one run over five innings. This was the first start for the 26-year-old since late June in what has been an injury riddled campaign. Fortunately the Cardinals were cautious and gave Flaherty ample time in the minors to build up his strength after bringing him back too soon after his initial injury. This enabled him to throw 91 pitches and we should expect a similar workload tonight against the Pirates. Though his salary is fair on FanDuel, he is at least 20% under market on DraftKings making him one of the best SP2 options in the player pool.

Additional Opportunities

Erick Fedde is not on the main slate, but we can still target the 4.5 over/under on his strikeout prop which seems like a very achievable target with the Stokastic projections forecasting 3.6 strikeouts and a 71% win probability with an 18% xROI. Only twice in his last 13 starts has the he had more than four whiffs. To be transparent, in this stretch he did have exactly four strikeouts five times. That said, Philadelphia should be able to send him to the showers before he has enough time to cobble together the five strikeouts needed to surpass the over.

Final MLB DFS Thoughts & MLB Weather Notes

There is enough rain in the forecast for Kansas City that the Royals actually moved their game to the afternoon, though that may not be enough to avoid local storms. Aside from that game being pulled off the “main” slate, everything else looks relatively risk free on the eve of NFL Sunday.
