NBA DFS Building Blocks Today: Wednesday, January 25

Core Play of the Day — T.J. McConnell: Indiana Pacers-Orlando Magic

  • Stokastic’s Preliminary Point Projections: DraftKings: 38.66 | FanDuel: 38.45
  • Stokastic’s Preliminary Rostered Projections: DraftKings: 59.90% | FanDuel: 65.90%
  • DFS Salary: DraftKings: $6,000 | FanDuel: $6,700

T.J. McConnell is right back to being the main core building block he was on Tuesday night’s slate, and he is almost impossible to get away from on Wednesday. He had another impressive performance last night, recording 20 points, three rebounds, 10 assists and three steals in 41 minutes as the Pacers rallied to beat Chicago 116-110. McConnell is $100 cheaper on DraftKings than he was last night, and he is now averaging 39.39 DraftKings points per game over the past seven games Haliburton has missed. While FanDuel raised his price by $100, McConnell is still undoubtedly a building block tonight.

Core Play of the Day — Xavier Tillman: Memphis Grizzlies-Golden State Warriors

  • Stokastic’s Preliminary Point Projections: DraftKings: 26.64 | FanDuel: 25.91
  • Stokastic’s Preliminary Rostered Projections: DraftKings: 44.30% | FanDuel: 33.40%
  • DFS Salary: DraftKings: $4,000 | FanDuel: $5,000

Xavier Tillman is the top DraftKings value play, at only $3,200 on DraftKings. He is more expensive on FanDuel at $4,600, but the ability to roster him at power forward more than makes up for that price discrepancy. With Steven Adams nursing a PCL strain that will sideline him for 3 to 5 weeks, Brandon Clarke was expected to take over as the Grizzlies starting center. Memphis coach Taylor Jenkins said “not so fast,” however, and opted to start Tillman at the five on Monday against Sacramento. Tillman played 30 minutes against the Kings en route to putting up 25.5 DraftKings points. Presuming he’s starting again tonight, expect the same sort of production against a fast-paced Warriors team.

Washington Wizards-Houston Rockets

There are multiple games on this slate that look very DFS friendly, with Washington-Houston standing out above the rest. With a point total of “only” 232.5, this game might be forgotten, but both sides offer massive upside.

The Wizards pulled out a nice road win yesterday in Dallas, with seemingly the entire team stepping up in the absence of Kristaps Porzingis. In a much better spot tonight against Houston, going right back to the Wizards makes a ton of sense here, with $8,800 Kyle Kuzma leading the way on DraftKings. Deni Avdija, despite coming off the bench, is still too cheap on both sites. On the tournament side of things, $4,100 Delon Wright is averaging 31.05 DraftKings points per game over the past four, and he’s falling way under the radar with so many good guard plays tonight.

On the Houston side, Alperen Sengun is an elite spend-up option on both DraftKings and FanDuel, as he is playing huge minutes and has the ball in his hands a ton. Sengun is getting a bit more love on FanDuel at a cheaper $8,400 price tag, but even on DraftKings at $8,700, there’s a lot to like about him in this spot. Jalen Green is also in play on both sites and has big-time upside ,as evidenced by the 59.5 and 57.8 DraftKings points he’s put up in two out of the past three games. Jabari Smith Jr. remains questionable, and if he sits, Tari Eason will be a strong value play despite increasing price tags on both sites. Lastly, Kenyon Martin Jr. is pulling some ownership tonight, and at a weak small forward position, there are definitely worse options.
