NBA DFS Leverage Picks & Optimizer Plays
With just five games on tap, ownership is expected to be concentrated, leaving it mostly up to DFS players to determine how to differentiate themselves. Anfernee Simons is clearly one of the top contrarian plays on the slate, with only 7.60% of rosters on DraftKings expected to roster him. Priced at only $6,900 on DraftKings and $6,800 on FanDuel, Simons looks like one of the top options DFS players can look to for leverage, and he’s in a surprisingly good spot matched up with a Mavericks team that ranks 26th in the NBA against opposing shooting guards.
Despite being projected to be in 13.40% of lineups on FanDuel, Simons still isn’t getting nearly enough love, as he has an optimal percentage of 17.80%. The story is similar on DraftKings, where Simons is projected to be optimal 11.60% of the time. He is undoubtedly one of the top tournament plays on the slate.

Another player who isn’t getting nearly enough love is Dallas forward Reggie Bullock. Averaging a paltry 14.1 DraftKings points per game, Bullock is never fun to roster, but he’s actually playing well right now and he should continue to play huge minutes as the Mavericks navigate through injury issues. Priced at only $3,500 on DraftKings and $4,300 on FanDuel, Bullock is projected to be 9.60% owned on DraftKings and 10.30% owned on FanDuel. Coming off back-to-back games with at least 25 fantasy points, Bullock is projected to be in the optimal lineup 14.20% of the time on DraftKings and 14.70% of the time on FanDuel. In a great spot against the Blazers, there’s a lot to like about Bullock at his price point on both sites.
On the flip side, Dallas center Dwight Powell is rating poorly from a leverage perspective on DraftKings in Stokastic’s Boom Bust Tool and might be worth fading in GPPs. At $3,200, Powell is projected to be 5.10% owned on DraftKings despite an optimal percentage of only 1.80%. On FanDuel the discrepancy is even worse, as Powell is projected to be 23.10% owned with an optimal percentage of 11.50%. While Powell is surely in play, he’s getting too much love while other value plays like Reggie Bullock and Jaylin Williams and are going under-owned.
