January 8 NBA DFS Pick: Clint Capela
Now, Awesemo sets his sights on today’s NBA slate, with some seriously good matchups on several daily fantasy sites.
NBA DFS Pick: Clint Capela ($7,800 DraftKings, $7,600 FanDuel) Grades: A, A; Values: A, A
Keeping up the theme of double-double locks, Clint Capela tops Awesemo’s value plays tonight. Capela has been the ultimate in low usage, high production for Houston this year, averaging well over a double-double at 14.5 and 14.2 on less than 16 percent usage. Only six times in 29 games has Capela fallen shy of a double-double, and only twice from December on. His last game, Capela dropped a season-high 30 points on just 16 shots while adding 14 rebounds and three blocks/steals. While that was certainly a ceiling performance from him, the high efficiency is the norm. His 63.8 true shooting is 15th in the league, his 23 double-doubles eighth and his rebound average third.
Capela’s offensive style of cleaning and finishing works wonders in the Houston scheme, hence the solid scoring despite low usage. Houston ranks second in the league in pace and offensive rating, so any matchup they are in projects to be high-scoring. That said, opponent Atlanta will certainly help matters, as they rank eighth in pace and 28th in defensive efficiency. Thus, we have a 122.5 implied total for Houston tonight, by far the highest on the slate. As such, truth be told, a number of Rockets could be strong plays tonight. But Capela’s price — among centers, just fourth-highest on FanDuel and seventh-highest on DraftKings — offers him especially high value.
