NBA DFS Picks: Prime Time Players

Luka Doncic: Dallas Mavericks at Oklahoma City Thunder

DraftKings $11,900, FanDuel $10,900, Yahoo $57 Ownership Rating (preliminary run): DraftKings 11.8%, FanDuel 45.7% Yahoo Fantasy 16.2%

Today is going to be a tremendous stars-and-scrubs build courtesy of the Houston Rockets. There are also a tremendous number of solid top-shelf center options, so let’s look at second-year phenom Luka Doncic as our prime time player today.

On the season, Doncic leads the league with a dozen triple-doubles. Even more impressive is that he is third in the league with 37.3% usage, with James Harden 37.3% ahead by a fraction and Giannis Antetokounmpo leading the league at 37.8%. He is also second with a 47.3% assist rate. Then there is the fantasy production which is 1.64 point per minute on DraftKings and 1.73 on FanDuel and Yahoo.

Doncic has been below 40 fantasy points only four times this season in 41 games, excluding one game where he left after two minutes due to an ankle injury.

NBA DFS Picks: Good Value

Houston Rockets at Utah Jazz

Russell Westbrook will be out tonight in the second game of a back-to-back and James Harden is currently listed as doubtful with a bruised quad. This will open up a tremendous amount of opportunity for the Houston understudies, albeit in a difficult matchup.

FanDuel fell asleep at the switch and did not adjust any prices. DraftKings gave Eric Gordon and Ben McLemore a boost and Yahoo has Gordon reasonably priced at $15.

Starting off with Gordon, he is finally seeing some positive regression recently with regards to his shooting accuracy. Most of his fantasy production comes from scoring, but he will luck into a handful of rebounds and one or two assists tonight. In 62.3 minutes (small sample size alert) with both Westbrook and Harden off the court, Gordon has a 40.1% usage with 1.36 fantasy points per minute.

Ben McLemore has been in a mega slump, averaging just 7.0 points per game over his last five despite starting. He has averaged about 17 minutes in these games. Buyer beware.

Chris Clemons is at the minimum price on every site, though I am okay with looking to other options on Yahoo where there are several discounted options. We have some uncertainty here as to what his role will be, but there is upside.

Austin Rivers and Danuel House Jr. are scoring dependent, but they should see 30 minutes apiece and we know they are at least functional options.

Finally we have P.J. Tucker who has not scored double digits in his last 17 games. Everything he does is predicated on the strength of blocks and steals, so I am not particularly interested in him tonight, but he will be in my player pool.

Yahoo Fantasy Discount Dandies

Tomas Satoransky vs. SAS – $14

Cedi Osman at DET – $11

Dewayne Dedmon at MIN – $10

NBA DFS Picks: Risky Value

LaMarcus Aldridge: San Antonio Spurs at Chicago Bulls

DraftKings $7,200, FanDuel $8,000, Yahoo $30 Ownership Rating (preliminary run): DraftKings 36.3%, FanDuel 32.7% Yahoo Fantasy 29.0%

In his last 12 games, LaMarcus Aldridge has topped 40 fantasy points once with 32 points and 14 rebounds in 35 minutes. This certainly is not because of a lack of minutes. The 34-year old veteran of 14 years is averaging 33.5 minutes with a fantasy point per minute on 18.2 points, 6.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.7 combined blocks/steals.

Clearly he is playing out on the perimeter more frequently as his rebounding numbers (including chances) are down and he is averaging almost three times his career 3-point attempts.

Lastly, this is a back-to-back as well as the third game in four days and fifth in eight days. Let others take on what looks to be an extreme lack of upside.

NBA DFS Picks: SuperDraft

De’Aaron Fox: Sacramento Kings at Minnesota Timberwolves – 1.40x multiplier

Nemanja Bjelica: Sacramento Kings at Minnesota Timberwolves – 1.65x multiplier

Eric Gordon: Houston Rockets at Utah Jazz 1.80x multiplier

Our standout SuperDraft recommendations for today are De’Aaron Fox and Nemanja Bjelica in a nice matchup against the Timberwolves that should be lacking defense. It should be no surprise that we see a Rocket here, but the 1.80x multiplier is very favorable considering Gordon should be getting close to 20 field goal attempts tonight.

Final Thoughts

Deciding how we want to leverage or roll with the incredibly chalky Houston players is going to be the key for tournaments Monday night.
