2023 Valspar Championship DFS Advice: Justin Thomas & Victor Perez Ownership Projections are Sky High

PGA DFS players were spoiled with loaded fields in recent weeks, but that won’t be the case at the 2023 Valspar Championship. Instead it’s Justin Thomas, Jordan Spieth at the top and a bevy of less-heralded players behind them.

With fewer studs attracting attention, it’s forcing the ownership for DFS contests on DraftKings to flood toward Thomas.

And Victor Perez?

Yes, it’s actually Perez who currently has the highest ownership projection when using Stokastic’s data. At 29.1%, Perez is the clear favorite option with a salary of $7,800.

Perez is a sleeper to casual golf fans, but those who follow the DP World Tour are familiar with his game. He won the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship back in January, edging out Min Woo Lee. He followed that up with a T28 and T13. He’s currently ranked 109 in the Official World Golf Rankings. He’s 60-1 in the betting market to win the 2023 Valspar Championship.

Justin Thomas is not a sleeper. He’s the betting favorite at +1200 at DraftKings. He’s also the highest-price golfer on the board at $10,900, just ahead of Spieth ($10,600). So it’s likely no surprised Thomas projects to be quite popular. His projected ownership sits at 27%.

However, Thomas has been subpar for his standard in recent weeks. He finished T60 at THE PLAYERS last week, T21 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and T20 at the Genesis Open. He did record a fourth place finish at the Waste Management Phoenix Open, but we have yet to truly see vintage ‘JT’.

DFS players are hoping that changes this week.

Thomas still grades well in projections, entering Wednesday with the highest chance at being in optimal lineups. But is that percentage high enough to play him at his ownership? It’s not quite as simple as “play him or don’t”. But when deciding whether or not to go overweight, underweight, all-in or full fade, it can’t be done without strong tools and projections.
