New York Knicks at Atlanta Hawks: Atlanta First Quarter -2 (-115, DraftKings/Sugar Hill)
The Hawks have shot out of the gates to a 4-2 start this season despite a disappointing loss to the Cavaliers in their last outing. A big piece of the success Atlanta has had is due to strong starts to games, winning first quarters by an average of 7.5 points per game, including 9.0 points in home games.
The Hawks won the first quarter in each of their first six games by the following results: 13 in Chicago, 5 in Memphis, 8 versus the Pistons, 3 and 6 in a pair of games in Brooklyn and then 10 against the Cavaliers. New York has been slightly above average in first quarters, winning by an average of 1.5 points per game — nothing substantial enough to fade how good the Hawks have been.
While the perfect 6-0 start to first quarter has to come to an end at some point, this doesn’t set up as a spot with any red flags. The Hawks were up big on the Cavaliers and choked the game away in the fourth, so they should come out motivated in this one against a subpar Knicks squad.
With most books showing -2.5, getting -2 gives us an edge at both DraftKings and Sugar House.
