With Kansas City seemingly trying only half of the time, they are still the No. 1 seed in the AFC, the top team in yards per play (6.6) and second in points per play (0.475). Patrick Mahomes, however, is coming off one of the worst games we have seen from him in a while. He threw three interceptions in the game and even took a 30-yard sack. This could also raise the level of motivation of this offense, as he looks to make a bounce-back statement against one of the top teams and defenses in the league.
After a loss to the Eagles last week, the Saints dropped out of the top seed in the NFC. They also decided now was the time to bring Drew Brees back into the lineup after his absence with a rib injury. Unfortunately, his activation coincides with New Orleans placing wide receiver Michael Thomas on IR, shutting him down for the regular season. With Brees back in the lineup, this demotes Taysom Hill back to the gadget role. However, this role now becomes more dangerous, as he has much more of the passing playbook open to him now. Before last week’s embarrassment, the Saints defense had held opponents to 8.8 points per game in the previous five outings. They will look to bring this level of play back to the field, as a slower game appears to be the only chance they have to win this game.
