This has helped out Philip Rivers and the passing game as a whole as well. Defensively the Colts are solid. They are tied for second in rushing yards allowed per attempt (3.8), and they allow the 11th-fewest points per game (22.9). They are also third in the league in takeaways per game (1.7), which is just behind Pittsburgh (1.8).
The Steelers went from being the last remaining undefeated team at 11-0 to third place in the AFC. They have lost the last three games due to their defense continuing to lose players and their offense struggling to do much of anything. The offensive struggles for Pittsburgh begin with Ben Roethlisberger. Over the past three games, he has completed just over 57% of his passes for 662 yards, five touchdowns and four interceptions. He has 5.17 yards per pass attempt. To put this number in perspective, Sam Darnold ranks 36th in this category, with 5.9 yards per attempt. The passing struggles hav4e led to defenses not respecting the deep ball. This makes it even tougher to complete underneath passes, and it also negatively affects the running game.
