Week 14 Thursday Night Football NFL Picks + NFL Odds Boosts To Watch | Patriots vs. Rams

When it comes to NFL betting, there are often few better wagers to gamble on than NFL odds boosts. They are bets that are exactly what they sound like: Promotions from sportsbooks that move the odds in your favor on certain bets. Most of them are the specific prop bets that you might be searching for by yourself, and oftentimes the odds are fairly enticing. Rarely can you make a lot of money on these bets because of limits, but our job is to highlight the best NFL prop bets and NFL picks to wager on every weeks. We scour the internet trying to find the best NFL odds boosts for you every day from every sportsbook. Let’s kick off Week 14 with a Thursday night duel between the Los Angeles Rams and the New England Patriots.

This is going to be a fascinating football game for plenty of reasons, but it’s also an interesting one for the odds boosts market. The Rams feature two marquee receivers and a good quarterback, but it’s been the running game that has done most of the scoring recently. I wish the sportsbooks would have done more with the Rams running backs tonight, but I’ll settle on Cooper Kupp for the first odds boost. The Patriots don’t have any notable skill position players — though I did appreciate the Hannukah Harry promo from DraftKings around N’Keal Harry tonight — and quarterback Cam Newton is more notable for his running than his passing right now. This will be a tricky game for odds boosts, but these seem like the best chances at success.

Week 14 Thursday Night Football NFL Odds, Picks + Prop Bets

NFL Picks: Cooper Kupp To Score & Rams Win (+220 BetMGM)

This is where I’d rather use a Rams running back as an odds boost, but with no one offering those, I’ll stick with the ever versatile Kupp. Los Angeles is actually the sixth-ranked passing offense by yards, but it has just the 23rd-most passing touchdowns in the league. Kupp is leading the way in terms of yards, and he is averaging almost 70 yards per game on 8.75 targets and 6.2 receptions. He hasn’t had much success finding the end zone, with just two touchdowns and none since Week 4, but this seems to be a chance for him to reverse that trend.

The Patriots will likely stick Stephon Gilmore on Robert Woods, which should make the matchup favorable for Kupp. If New England sells out for the run in the red zone, Kupp is an excellent route runner that can take advantage of the mismatches behind the blitzes for an easy touchdown. Sean McVay is an offensive savant who will find ways to use the Patriots’ aggressiveness against them, and that might mean more chances for Kupp to score. At the very least, he’ll get plenty of looks and catches, which will increase the chances one of them ending in a touchdown.

DraftKings is offering +1200 odds on Kupp to score the first touchdown, and FanDuel is offering +550 odds on either Kupp or Woods to score that first touchdown.

NFL Picks: Cam Newton Rushing Touchdown (+100 PointsBet)

The Patriots have won four of their last five games by re-committing to the running game in recent weeks and taking the pressure off Newton’s arm. In their last three wins, Newton has attempted fewer than 20 passes, while he threw 40 times in the loss to the Texans. It’s a pick-your-poison method for the Patriots offense this week, as the Rams defense ranks in the top three against both the pass and the run. However, Los Angeles is the top-ranked passing defense, so it makes sense for the Patriots to stick to their strengths as much as they can in this game.

That means using Newton as part of the rushing attack and letting him use his size and speed to neutralize the Rams defense. Newton already has a rushing touchdown in seven games this season, and he’s had multiple rushing scores in four of those contests. He’s the go-to running back in goal line situations, and he’s not afraid to call his own number in those spots. The Patriots are 2-2 when Newton does not score a touchdown and 4-3 when he does, so it’s not a death sentence if he doesn’t score, but it certainly makes the Patriots a better team when Newton is able to run for a touchdown.

If you feel confident in the Patriots winning as well, you can head over to FanDuel, which is offering +420 odds on Newton to rush for a touchdown combined with a New England victory.

NFL Picks: Rams Win & 46+ Total Points (+230 FanDuel)

It seems counterintuitive for two teams that struggle to score points and have excellent defenses to produce 46 points, but I think it’s actually fairly likely. The Rams have the eighth-best rushing attack in the league and rank third in total yards, so they can move the ball well at the very least. The Patriots are an average rushing defense, and now that the Rams are healthy in the backfield, that is something McVay will use to his advantage. This will likely be a far more run-based gameplan than we typically see from Los Angeles, but it will attack the weakness in this New England defense.

The Patriots will likely struggle to move the ball against a stout Rams unit that hasn’t allowed 350 yards in its last six games. But Arizona found ways to score 28 points last week, and four of Los Angeles’ last five opponents topped 20 points against it. It might be that New England creates a defensive touchdown — PointsBet is offering +200 odds on either defense or special teams scoring a touchdown — or it might be just two solid drives that lead to touchdowns for New England. But I think there will be far more points in this game than when these teams met in the Super Bowl a few years ago, and the Rams are the better team.
