Best PGA DFS Value Plays for the Scottish Open 2022 | DraftKings & FanDuel Golf

The Scottish Open 2022 this week is the first of many future co-sanctioned events between the PGA Tour and the DP World Tour. The Scottish Open will feature the top 75 players from each Tour and also six exemptions spots to give us a 156-man field. The event will take place for the fourth-time in a row at the Renaissance Club, a 7,294-yard Par 71 that was designed by Tom Doak back in 2007. The links style venue fits closely between some other famous Scottish Links and has already hosted a plethora of big events. Lots of the top players in the OWGR are in the field this week including World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, U.S. Open champion Matthew Fitzpatrick and PGA Championship winner Justin Thomas. Let’s dive into the best Scottish Open DFS golf picks this week and find some of the best PGA DFS value plays for DraftKings and FanDuel lineups.

Scottish Open 2022 DFS Golf Rankings & Picks

This will be a massive change for the PGA Tour regulars as we are transitioning to a pure links venue. If anything, we should be giving some advantage to the DP World Tour players this week, many of whom played on a links course last week in Ireland. The last three winners of this event have all been DP World Tour players, with Min Woo Lee taking home the title last year. Lee gained over 4.0 strokes around the green and putting last year emphasizing how important around the green play can be on a firm links course, with quirky green structures, that will likely produce low green in regulation percentages.

As always, we are looking to find the top values and top daily fantasy golf picks this week for DraftKings and FanDuel contests with the help of the Stokastic projections. Below we’ll target some of the best DFS golf picks for DraftKings and FanDuel fantasy golf contests.

The Renaissance Club Stats and Info

  • Par 71, 7,294 yards; features four par 5’s and five par 3’s, making it a non-traditional Par 71 layout
  • Last year’s winner Min Woo Lee gained over 4.0 strokes around the greens and putting. He was lowest ranked in off the tee metrics but had solid approach stats
  • The winner at this venue has been between 22-under par and 11-under par in the last three year’s it has hosted the event (between 2018 to 2021), weather plays a huge factor in how the course will play
  • Heavier winds are expected this year so expected short games to pay a massive role

Scottish Open 2022 DFS Golf Picks & Fantasy Golf Rankings

Jon Rahm: Grades: A+, Values: C, B

It’s been a couple of months since the Stokastic model has favoured Jon Rahm to this degree but it’s good to see one of its favorites back on top of the point projections this week. Despite Rahm being just the second-highest priced player on DraftKings this week, he’s the clear leader in the Stokastic Golf Model by nearly two points over second-place Justin Thomas. Rahm comes in off two of his better results of the season, including a 12th-place finish at the U.S. Open, which had him in direct contention for the win going into Sunday, and hovering around a top-5 finish for most of the event before fading late.

Rahm ranks first in strokes gained ball-striking stats over the last 50 rounds and has seen his around-the-green game take a noticeable tick upwards in his last few starts — a big deal for the links this week where short game prowess is often magnified. Rahm’s links record is also something to consider as he’s finished 11th and third in the last two Open Championships while also grabbing a win at the Irish Open a few years back. With ownership levels in the sub-15% range, and with lots of good boom-or-bust European Tour players in the low-$7K range (and below), starting with Rahm this week in GPP lineups looks like a solid move.

Projected PGA DFS ownership: DraftKings: 14.5% | FanDuel: 30.7%

The Stats:

  • 12th and 10th over his last two starts; has gained over 1.5 strokes ATG in three of his last four PGA Tour starts
  • Finished seventh  at this event last year and has gone third and 11th at the Open Championship in the last two iterations of that event

Cameron Smith: Grades: A, Values: A, B

In terms of upper tier value, the Stockastic Golf Model likes the outlook for Australian Cameron Smith this week. Smith has admittedly undergone a slight dry spell of late, landing a MC and a 48th-place finish in his last two starts. It’s easy to forget though that Smith was looking just fine prior to that small stretch, and was in contention at the Memorial after 54 holes (before fading to 13th) and gained an incredible 9.7 strokes on approach alone at the PGA Championship (where he also landed a 13th-place finish). Smith fits the profile of links golf, as he has precision irons and a world-class short game, which will certainly be needed this week given the wind in the forecast.

As for how he projects, nobody with a salary under $9,500 on DraftKings has a better DFS golf point projection on Stokastic this week than Smith, and he sits within a point of recent U.S. Open winner Matthew Fitzpatrick in the PGA model as well. Much like Rahm, Smith will carry some ownership, but isn’t expected to be uber popular. The fact his salary is so close to $9,000 on DraftKings, though, means you can use him as part of a mega-balanced build or as a second man in if paying up for a stud like Rahm.

Projected PGA DFS ownership: DraftKings: 16.4% | FanDuel: 13.6%

The Stats:

  • Sits fourth in DraftKings points gained and third in SG: Approach stats over the last 24 rounds
  • Has gained strokes around the green in 11 of his last 13 starts on the PGA Tour

Top 3 Under 5% in DraftKings Fantasy Golf This Week

This section will target players that should end up under or close to 5% ownership in larger DraftKings Golf GPPs. These picks are boom/bust PGA DFS players with an almost 100% focus on the upside.

Robert MacIntyre ($7,600)

MacIntyre hasn’t been in the greatest form of late, putting in a couple subpar efforts in his last two PGA Tour starts. His fortunes changed somewhat last week in a more familiar setting though as he was able to grab a 13th-place finish over in Ireland. MacIntyre’s putter was in great form last week and if that confidence spills over to this week, another good finish should be on tap in his home country.

Rickie Fowler ($6,900)

Fowler’s recent form is nothing to brag about, but the American has better links experience than most of his American counterparts and has finished in the top 10 in four of his last five visits to this event (and won it in 2015). Fowler came over early this year and played the pro-am event over in Ireland, opening with a bogey-free 67 there. At under $7K, he’s worth chasing in GPPs at low ownership and has a lot of motivation with an Open Championship spot on the line.

Joakim Lagergren ($6,100)

As mentioned above, the advantage this week goes to the European players in the sense that this venue isn’t as foreign to them as it is the Americans. Lagergren is a great putter who can get hot with his irons and has been in steady form of late, grabbing five made cuts in a row. If his putter gets hot, he’s a player who could challenge for a top-20 this week — given the setting — and would be a massive value at this price, if that were to occur.
